Poll question: Would you wear something ORANGE everyday until Bush & Cheney are impeached?
I went to the fabric store to buy three different kinds of orange fabrics to mess around with. The high school girl who cut it for me ask why so much of the same color and I told her the World Can't Wait has come up with this campaign to show national, public support for impeaching Bush & Cheney. She got excited and said she was going to get all her friends to do it too.

The campaign would like to get critical mass on this by Labor Day, and especially have people wearing orange on ORANGE FRIDAYS.

http://www.worldcantwait.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4174&Itemid=223

The choice of colors has a couple of advantages:

  • It echoes the orange revolution in the Ukraine, which is a great irony since Bush criticized that government for rigging elections when the exit polls didn't match the vote.

  • Orange is a bright, annoying color, most people don't wear in most situations.

  • Enough construction workers wear orange that it will make it look like even more support the campaign.

  • It is also the color of the jumpsuits of the prisoners at Gitmo and Abu Ghraib.

  • Rush Limbaugh has been selling orange "Club Gitmo" wear for a while, so some dittoheads will unwittingly be participating in the campaign.

The World Can't Wait has bandanas and tees, but if you can't afford to buy anything from them, you could go to a thrift store and buy a couple of orange tee shirts, or a strip of fabric from a fabric store to make a bandana, scarf, or armband. You can also buy one of those rubber wristbands in orange.

Some variations you can do with this:

  • Tie an orange ribbon to the antenna on your car or side mirrors.

  • Send an orange postcard to your senators and reps with just the words IMPEACH NOW on it. (or maybe tell them you'll wear orange until they do their job and impeach, so every time they see the color they'll remember they aren't doing their job).

  • Send that postcard to the White House too. What the hell. You know you're on the list already.

  • Put an orange banner or background on your blog.

  • You might also send a nice orange tie or scarf to your favorite White House press corps reporter and say you would be honored if they wore it at press conferences, especially when they're with Bush himself. (Whether or not you tell the reporter the significance of the color is up to you). Hell, Helen Thomas might wear it even if you tell her what it's for.

Even better, when Cheney goes hunting, he will be supporting impeaching himself.

Will you participate in this campaign?

24. Orange isn't your color?
The #1 problem is that MOST dems are afraid to identify themselves. Until we do, we deserve what we get.

When you go to work, to the store, to the dentist, or just driving, do you identify who you are?

Do you know if your clerk, doctor, repairman, the person driving behind you is someone who believes in their president or is someone who is aware of what is really going on?

Oh, and as a winter, red is a very good color for you.

26. No.
I have two pairs of pants, 5 pairs of underwear, two shirts that button and 3 t-shirts that fit. That's it. If I don't do laundry every 5 days I use a towel or do laundry in the buff.

You lose 50 lbs in 7 months and see what happens to your wardrobe. And the problem is, I may gain some or all of it back once the meds get my body back in line. But until then, I may lose even more weight.

Orange? Not on my radar. More pressing clothing needs.

35. OMG This is so sad
I can remember so many campaigns like this promoted here on DU. Some even involved collecting money. And the response has been fabulous!

Who can forget what DU did for Andy Stephenson? And the flowers for Helen Thomas? And the outpouring of support for Cindy Sheehan, who started her vigil outside bush's ranch 2 years ago today. DUers were awesome in their responses to each of these and many other campaigns.

But this simple idea gets blown off with some of the most ridiculous comments I think I have ever seen here!! It's one thing to not agree. It is another entirely to belittle and demean the idea.

yurbud, you spent a lot of time putting this OP together and I thank you for that. Your pictures are wonderful and very clever.

But for a community that has spent 6 and a half years criticizing this administration and has voted overwhelmingly in favor of impeachment in several DU polls, the reactions you are getting to your OP just blow my mind.

No wonder so many longtime DUers are leaving this place.

kicking it all off with the National Cheney Impeachment Poll.

But first, we want you to know we have already upped our order with
the manufacturer of the "IMPEACH CHENEY?" caps to 10,000, and will
start shipping the second run first thing this coming week. If you
put in your request or order within the about last two weeks the
further West you are the more likely you were to make the first run,
as we were adding into the sacks sorted by city as many new orders
coming in as we could. Otherwise you will definitely be part of the

The first featured action page in the new Facebook application is of
course the hottest one in our system right now, the National Cheney

47. I Am Furious (Orange)
How will this be distinguishable from those who just are wearing orange for no reason? Or is the idea to force our interpretation of orange fabric on all who wear it? To me it fails from an identification standpoint--orange clothing will not be evidence of impeachment support in all or even most cases. Also, if the idea is that since so many people wear orange anyway it will make many people seem as though they support impeachment: first, that's rather deceptive; second, why not just say the new impeachment secret handshake is wearing white socks? Or black shoes? Look at all the impeachment supporters we've created.

Not only is it a perfectly dreadful color on me, but I would be mistaken for a football fan. 67. great bunch of pictures!
The reasons for the color orange are all good, too--especially the jumpsuits and the (OMG how vile) Rush Limbaugh shirts.

If this became an easily recognizable sign of protest, I'd wear orange, but until then... it's my least favorite color, I have nothing orange in the house let along in my closet, and, because Bush is so wildly unpopular anyway and everybody's already aware of that, I'm not sure even a widespread protest would make enough of a difference to make wearing orange:puke: worth it. It's not as though his 28% standing in the polls has changed anything.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket. If the color were black, green, purple, or blue, I'd go along. Even though I know it's not about fashion but about a statement. I just really don't like orange and look like a cadaver in it.

But my sincerest thanks for your post and for all the work you put into it. And if "orange = impeach" came to be a generally understood shorthand, I'd be happy to look cadaverous in solidarity.

69. dare to be a trendsetter. I figured that out back in high school. most people are so terrified of
being different or the first one to do something, then the first time, YOU are the first, and people start imitating you, or even if you just realize you can endure the mocking, it's liberating.
.
fuck everybody else if it doesn't catch on. at least it's worth a try.

wear a token amount like the rubber wristband or a tee under another shirt

68. A year or so ago, it was important to let people
know that there were others with the same thoughts. Now it is the predominant opinion. So it's not clear that it has the same coded meaning to be wearing orange that it once would have--but hell, if it can encourage one other person to feel empowered, I'm all for it. Of course, like in 1984, we are just creating an easy way for them to identify and deal with us. So, get me one of them orange wristbands........

IMHO, it's great for supporting my university football team, it's a bad idea for supporting a political goal.

83. I guess that means you won't wear pink or red ribbons either,
in support of breast cancer research, heart research studies or support for AIDS victims?

Or any other color people use to represent a cause?

Only to support a sports team? :eyes:

It CAN mean something and it already has to a lot of people!

A lot of people know what it means.

on edit:

If you did wear an orange armband and people asked you why.
Then you'd have the perfect opportunity to inform them too! ;)

Enjoy the game!! :hi:

89. yes, it COULD mean something
Armbands and ribbons generate questions, like you said. Just wearing the color orange won't have people asking "why", especially during football and basketball season.

I think your armband idea is much better than a shirt color.
