Ya know, a decent sized movie company, I want them to make me money since I invest in them.

But the last few films have sucked ass. Should I tell em that? Write to them?

And since I do online reviews should I make the films sound better than they are?

The decision is tough:
1. If I write a good review, more people might see the film and it could make money. But may not trust the filmmakers the next time around.

2. If I write a bad review they may not see the film (and oddly, some of them may like it)

There is a thing about trust. And I love the company, I just think some of the actors and directors are not doing too well :)

2. Ethically,
you shouldn't be reviewing films from a company you invest in, period. Any private comments you'd like to direct to the folks who are potentially losing your money, on the other hand, are entirely appropriate.

4. If you're a blue dog, write a good review. If you're a progressive, tell the truth.
Someone mentioned the flaw in the Bourne Ultimatum, too much shaky cam, and I was thankful for the pre-warning.

If it bothers you so much, find something good and something bad to balance it out.

5. a conundrum...
I used to review albums for a local rag, I used to clarify what I thought to be a bad release by one of my favorite artists as such...."Fan Oriented" or "Not For Everyone"..that way I could be satisfied as @ least helping the artist and also holding up to my own standards.

7. Gee, your credibilty versus a few bucks up front.
I guess it depends on whether you're a Democrat or a Republic.

10. Perhaps not.
But if I ever had to go into a dark alley or make big things into very little things, yer' my first call, boudreau. ;-)

14. It is akin to bloggers/posters and our party and how we review them
Since we are invested heavily in them :)

11. My rule about critique: Don't criticize unless you also attempt to come up with some solution.
I also say if you don't vote you loose your right to complain. And sadly, these days, that ain't just a metaphor anymore.

In the case of your metty-fore: If you give an honest review, then you also talk about how the film could have been better. Talk about whether, on the whole, the film is worth seeing and why.

Speaking of films worth seeing...this little snip of dialogue caught my ear today from the teaser for The Dark Knight:

Alfred:

"and in their desperation they turned to a man they didn't fully understand. Some men aren't looking for anything logical, they can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."

Joker=Bush or is that too obvious?

12. Depends. Are you a Republican or a Democrat?
Answer that question, and the answer to your first question will be obvious.

Brilliant. It's what we're all struggling with. K & R.

On edit: I would write the review. :-)
