Let's face it guys; civilization needs all the help it can get from the Goddess
Let's face it guys; the historically destructive social structures of institutional religion and traditional politics were chiefly invented by MEN.

*****************************************************************
Said, differently, the Middle East is a sewer of conflict among the world's three most patriarchal religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Sure, lots of small exceptions in each of these religions, but these are the exceptions which prove the rule. All those councils, for example, in the history of Catholicism were basically tumultuous aggregations of old men.

Mythologically speaking, what the Earth needs now is the Goddess, e.g., less violence and more communication.

But isn't that precisely what's happening now on the Internet? The Internet is less a "male thing" than the Goddess in action. Sure these are images, but as Joseph Campbell used to virtually stand on street corners to remind us, mythology is saying things which can be said NO OTHER WAY.

Consider the following possibilities:

(1.) The human species must transcend the have and have not inhumanity in the very near future. Pig, pig rich people simply HAVE TO GO. However, the point here is less moral than biological, i.e., the going ballistic social tensions generated by Greek God like elites are rapidly killing our species and much of the biosphere and evolution will simply not let that happen. One way or another, the elites are going to be selected out.

(2.) If the human species doesn't radically factor the feminine take on things into our social structures, our "male thing" civilizations are going to careen into oblivion. Human civilization is dying of "imbalance". To borrow some oriental symbols, too much yang and virtually no yin leads to disease and death.

History has survived these twin insanities for lots of reasons. At least they weren't species threatening as they are now. Perhaps that's due to quantum jumps in murderous technologies and the exponential growth of human kind.

In any event, it's probably game over in the very near future unless yin/female/Goddess energy starts profoundly infusing our social structures. So I guess this is a cry for help. Ladies, please help us out here. We need your wisdom and sanity. Perhaps only you can defuse the religious fanatics and pour oil on the troubled waters of limitless masculine greed.

It's not that masculine energies are always toxic. That's not the point. The point is that human civilization lacks Yang/Yin BALANCE. To much salt spoils the stew and too much "man" in mankind is a form of species suicide.

I always love your posts and you are right on target with this one. I fear it will take some major upheaval to bring balance back though. Still I am confident that as with all things our beloved earth with find it's balance again. We humans just might not like how she goes about doing that.

27. I don't think that is what the OP is saying
The post, as I interpreted it, is saying that what the world needs is for women to begin asserting themselves. That everything is run by men and it creates a great imbalance. Women and men, for the most part think in very different manners, and the world could benefit from the female prospective.

11. I think what we're going through, as a planet, is similar to labor...
we are going through the challenging times of pain and constriction as we birth something new....a new way of being, a new consciousness. We have to surrender to the old ways of being and let go of what no longer works, ie. War.

Yes, the Goddess is alive and there IS an awakening to the Divine Feminine which is occurring. We are living in a time of great change. That is the truth.

I choose to believe in a positive vision of our future: we are evolving and moving forward, waking up to the magnificence of who we are, recognizing our ONENESS. our common humanity. I make a difference in the world, as each of us does, by my willingness to share from my heart and act in alignment with my spirit.

So be it. :loveya:

I read something a while back that said there are cyclic ages of something like 20,000 years, that the militaristic masculine age is dying, and that we are entering a new age in which the feminine is again ascendant.

It sounded pretty hopeful to me... restoring appreciation of the natural world, nurturing and preserving life, etc.

I just wish I could remember more detail or which of my books I read it in.

Oh well, I'm past due rereading the lot of them again. :D

On Edit: I wonder if 12/21/2012 will be the end of labor and the birthing date of the new age? Something to consider. I definitely want to see it!

But it's been one hell of a long and painful labor, and I'm getting tired of waiting!

Over the years many prophecies have mentioned that the feminine balance must be restored....I've always felt somehow that women will *save* this earth.

We are definitely out of balance these days.....

Nice post...thanks....and thanks to all the great women posting here too.

I guess the human race will go wanting as far as deities go. It's ok. Science, reason, and the social contract may yet see us through anyway.

IMHO, the OP is saying that what the world needs is more "feminine" ideas. More of what the "Goddess" traditionally represents.

39. And my point is that the word "goddess" could have been left out entirely
and the point would have been the same. I guess its a sign of progress when the only way for myths to stay relevant is for people to shove them in where they are unnecessary.

29. well I think
you have to identify the positive qualities you want to see --'yin' and 'yang' qualities. Then emphasize them & extinguish the negative --in BOTH genders.

While I am totally in agreement with the need for BIG changes (and soon) from too much yang--I don't like to see it in terms of women will save the world. "The point is that civilization lacks YIN-YANG Balance" ...as you say. That's what should be emphasized. If you invoke the Goddess as savior--I dunno--it makes men feel shut out. I know you mean it as an archetype, a concept. But we don't live in a culture that has a neutral concept of the term goddess.

As for women running things differently, I don't think that's really working out. For one thing, women who get into positions of power and control have to run things exactly like men do, or they will have no credibility. Aside from slightly more cooperation in organizations, you usually don't see much improvement-- or more yin-ness in business or politics-- if women are CEOS. A lot of the time you get women who are trying to be like men so much that they are WORSE than men in negative traits. I saw this once in a non-profit org run by women...lots of lip service to cooperation, which was taken full advantage of by those in power --just the usual top-down ego-bound control stuff. Women DON'T automatically know how to do it better in male spheres anymore than they automatically know how to do motherhood. I have seen some women-owned small businesses that employ mostly women that TRY to function without as much competition and hostility and abuse, but they are rare.

So I think a different perspective has to happen for both male and female. We actually need to learn the same thing.

34. I think we would be a lot better off with less myths and more reality
also "the world's three most patriarchal religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam" I only count one religion. Don't buy into the propaganda, same god, same creation myth, same prophets for the most part.

All of the violence in the Middle East is sectarian violence. I will agree with you that the Cult of Yahweh has proved to be inimical to civilized society, replacing it with another nutty religion isn't a step in the right direction.
