Bushs New Signing Statement Mocks Democratic Party
by OneCrankyDom
Sun Aug 05, 2007 at 03:20:45 PM PDT

On Friday Bush issued his latest Signing Statement. Unlike many of his other ones this one does little damage to anything but how history will see this era. No direct signs he plans on ignoring any Laws or further usurping of the Constitution. This Signing Statement is nothing but a backhanded slap in the face at those that have tried to stop the wholesale destruction of our Constitution.

I also believe it is important to recognize the urgent need for Congress to pass legislation to modernize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a decades-old law that should be updated to address changes in communication technology while protecting the civil liberties of our citizens. The Director of National Intelligence has stated unequivocally that without this change in the law, we will continue to miss significant amounts of information that we should be collecting to protect against potential terrorist attacks.

................
One thing among the thousands is found in the last 2 sentences of this Signing Statement where Bush continues to deny that his main duty is the Protection of our Constitution, not the safety of the citizens. This is a key flaw to everyone of his claims to false powers.

I thank members of both parties in Congress who worked on this legislation and I appreciate the willingness of members to strengthen provisions we believed would have weakened our security. Leaders in Washington should never forget that our most important duty is to protect the American people. I will continue to work with the Congress to ensure we are doing everything we can to keep our Nation safe.

TOP TEN MYTHS ABOUT THE ILLEGAL NSA SPYING ON AMERICANS

MYTH: This is merely a “terrorist surveillance program.”
REALITY: When there is evidence a person may be a terrorist, both the criminal code and intelligence laws already authorize eavesdropping. This illegal program, however, allows electronic monitoring without any showing to a court that the person being spied upon in this country is a suspected terrorist.

MYTH: The program is legal.
REALITY: The program violates the Fourth Amendment and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) and will chill free speech.

MYTH: The Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) allows this.
REALITY: The resolution about using force in Afghanistan doesn’t mention wiretaps and doesn’t apply domestically, but FISA does--it requires a court order.

MYTH: The president has authority as commander in chief of the military to spy on Americans without any court oversight.
REALITY: The Supreme Court recently found the administration’s claim of unlimited commander in chief powers during war to be an unacceptable effort to “condense power into a single branch of government,” contrary to the Constitution’s checks and balances.

MYTH: The president has the power to say what the law is.
REALITY: The courts have this power under our system of government, and no person is above the law, not even the president, or the rule of law means nothing.

MYTH: These warrantless wiretaps could never happen to you.
REALITY: Without court oversight, there is no way to ensure innocent people’s everyday communications are not monitored or catalogued by the NSA or other agencies.

MYTH: This illegal program could have prevented the 9/11 attacks.
REALITY: This is utter manipulation. Before 9/11, the federal government had gathered intelligence, without illegal NSA spying, about the looming attacks and at least two of the terrorists who perpetrated them, but failed to act.

MYTH: This illegal program has saved thousands of lives.
REALITY: Because the program is secret the administration can assert anything it wants and then claim the need for secrecy excuses its failure to document these claims, let alone reveal all the times the program distracted intelligence agents with dead ends that wasted resources and trampled individual rights.

MYTH: FISA takes too long.
REALITY: FISA allows wiretaps to begin immediately in emergencies, with three days afterward to go to court. Even without an emergency, FISA orders can be approved very quickly and FISA judges are available at all hours.

MYTH: Only liberals disagree with the president about the program.
REALITY: The serious concerns that have been raised transcend party labels and reflect genuine and widespread worries about the lack of checks on the president’s claim of unlimited power to illegally spy on Americans without any independent oversight

If they think they have any chance of winning in 2008 by adhering to this myth they are retarded.

10. I saw the video of him swearing in after the fact
Couldn't stomach it at the time, since he wasn't supposed to be the Prez.

As he swore that, I swear I heard him saying:

"Yeah, right. I'm going to uphold that ****ing piece of paper?! These people must really be stupid if they think swearing anything on a musty old book filled with nonsense means anything to me!"

11. Bush's tag line say it all
"Leaders in Washington should never forget that our most important duty is to protect the American people."

What preposterous, hypocritical bullshit. His duty, and that of Congress, is to uphold and protect the Constitution, not protect the people. Someone needs to tell that little pimple that he stole the office of President, not National Nanny.

Hopefully it will be military brass as they frog march him down the White House steps, in a straight jacket, as they cart the psychotic little monster out under provisions of the 25th Amendment.

They're not investigating potential attacks, they're collecting information to protect against potential attacks.

Yes, they are fucking insane. All the data in the world, under this theory, is theirs. The Bill of Rights be damned.

21. So keep us safe, Our Representatives.
Keep us safe from the likes of Bush and his ilk - the most detestable band of Constitution mutineers ever to disgrace th executive branch.

When the government has a free pass to collect data in search of monsters it will make mistakes. Mistakes happen because of a government's aggressive zealousness such as that demonstrated in the writing of and passage of this bill. The result of these mistakes is that innocent people will have their lives ruined by a government that will not admit any wrongdoing and will not apologize.

Perhaps one of Our Representatives will be a victim of this government's mistake. Schadenfreude anyone?

I am thinking about giving up. Human greed should never be underestimated. Dems got in and not they spit on us. There are some good Dems left though, but not enough to stop Hitler, Jr. I am getting tired of supporting those who lie. Bush it there master period, afterall, Bush represents the extremely rich and that is what most politicians respect, MONEY! As Kevin Trudeau says, "It's all about the money." His book is excellent.
