Senator Bob Casey Statement on FISA Votes
Casey Statement on FISA Votes

Monday, August 6, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC-Following the votes on the temporary FISA bills, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) issued the following statement:

“I voted for both versions of the temporary FISA fix in order to ensure that U.S. intelligence has the tools they need to target terrorists while a larger review of the FISA law is conducted.

“The Bond-McConnell version supported by the White House is far from ideal and I deplore the tactics employed by the Bush Administration to push its agenda through the politics of fear.

“A thorough review when cooler heads can prevail is needed for a permanent FISA fix that keeps the United States safe from terrorists while also safeguarding the rights of American citizens.”

3. This statement........

“The Bond-McConnell version supported by the White House is far from ideal and I deplore the tactics employed by the Bush Administration to push its agenda through the politics of fear."

He should have added that it worked and he is terrified.

4. Bob, it looks as if you're a tool.
Intelligence has all the tools currently available. Their line about needing technology is a lie. Can't you tell? Their lips are moving.

5. But you see fool, the FISA court already works.
It's pretty much a rubber stamp anyways. FISA didn't need to be "fixed".

6. I was practically crucified for saying I had to hold my nose to vote for this putz
A fascist police state installed by Dems who cluck despondently and wring their hands over their complicity in installing it is more galling to me than the publicans who actually claim we need it. :puke:

I deplore Casey and other repuke lites who voted for this sham and will vote for it again in six months.

7. They Are All Having To Explain Themselves
and oddly enough, all theses statements sound very much alike. Mitch McConnell told them how to handle their unpopular vote.

Just another way of admonishing us to "keep our powder dry".

My reply to Casey: Kiss my lily white patoot, pal. TRAITORS, every one of you.

11. Casey has no excuse
Some of the guys who voted for the fascist wiretap bill claim they come from Republican states or districts. Casey is from a blue state where he won by 18 points. He's not up for reelection until 2012.

Casey got a pass on being pro-life in the Democratic primaries because we were promised that he would be a reliable Democratic vote on other issues. Casey broke more than that promise. He broke his oath to defend the constitution.

I wrote Casey the nastiest E-mail I could compose and didn't need to stretch anything. I'll write another to respond to Casey's response.

Senator Casey claims that he voted for the Republican bill because he was afraid to leave America unprotected. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the truthfulness of that claim. I can't respect his judgment though. Senator Casey comes from the state of Benjamin Franklin, who said,"Any society that would give up essential liberty for temporary security deserves neither and will lose both."

No reason, including the threat of terrorism, should cause us to give up our rights. We faced the Soviet nuclear threat without giving up our rights. If we were invaded by every country in the world and they wanted to take away our rights, I'd expect every last American to fight to the death to protect that which so many Americans gave so much for over the last 231 years. What's one terrorist attack compared to what was given in World War II?

We are told that the Democrats will try again. They can pass a better bill, but Bush will veto it. In six months, we'll be back in the same situation. There'll be no bill Bush will sign and he'll threaten Americans with terrorist dangers.

The Democrats need to establish now that rights are more important than safety. They need to promise now that they'll not make this trade with Bush ever again.

I won't forgive Senator Casey for what he's done unless he is the first to stand up for Liberty. Casey has the least to lose, and owes the most to Benjamin Franklin. Casey should be singled out and go first.
