The Only Democrat I can stomach |
|
Rural NC, listening to the only talk show I could find on the radio. The question to callers: "If you HAD to pick a Dem, who could you stomach?" After, "None of Them"; the only one I heard over and over was Bill Richardson.
Tell me again why we don't like him?

His campaign is the only one that has received a financial contribution from me.
More important than whether (or why) I like him, I believe he's got the best chance to beat ANY of the GOP's likely nominees.

I've never gotten a satifactory explanation as to how he could be unconcerned about machines that didn't tally any votes. Maybe someone has and I am all ears to listen.
Other than that, I'm really surprised he isn't doing better. He's got a lot of the right ideas. Well, I think there's some trade issues too, if memory serves. But that's going to be true of most any candidate.

Saying the right things is great, but he didn't do such a good job when he worked in the Clinton administration. Nice guy, I'm sure, but not someone who works real hard or pays attention to detail.

19. His first two and a half years as governor were out of the |
|
DLC playbook. After that, he seems to have had an epiphany and has many good things to his credit, and a few so so things. He managed to get a commuter rail system partially built in a state that has never had one, a major triumph. He's a social libertarian who's managed to keep the state solvent.
He's still DLC, but he shows every sign of shaking them up--a lot.
"We don't like him" because he's about as charismatic as a cold pork chop.
I'm sick of empty charisma, how about you? I'd prefer somebody who can do the job. Richardson is one who can.

|
I had the same impression as you did. DLC all the way.
This will get me flamed...but he reminds me of Colin Powell. Great resume but all window dressing;no substance. I can live without the charisma, but I need real substance.
I think he is an awful leaky vessel to pour all your hopes in. But like I said-I left after he had been in a bit.

17. Governnor as candidate |
|
I think history shows that Governors repeatedly do better than Senators - must be people think someone with executive experience is more prepared for the job. Richardson has that, and plenty of foreign policy experience, which most governors don't have. So, I do like him as a candidate.

I have to admit, however, that I'm not familiar with all of his positions on the issues. Of those in the debate, I find myself agreeing most often with Kucinich. But Richardson would probably be my second choice.

He is a republican in dems clothing.
He sat on the boards of VECO and Diamond Offshore as soon as he left his post as Energy Secretary under the Clinton administration. He only left those seats to run for governor.
He prevented the 2004 recounts in his state, said recounts were vital to the Ohio recount efforts.
He said he wouldn't ask for Gonzo's resignation because Gonzo was hispanic and he had to be loyal to him. (he later changed his mind)
He is a corporatists and a washington insider.
A vote for him would be like voting for Rudy, imho.
