my republican relatives changed colors from red to blue!
The last time I talked to my niece, she gave me a big speech about how the Republicans are "good for the military"

Her husband is now in Iraq

I talked to her over the week end and she informed me that she is a Socialist!

They lived for a year in Italy, and she was able to see what socialized medicine is like, and it was a real eye opener for her

She also told me that being a military wife , she was really cautious about talking about her "new" beliefs.

THEN I talked to my brother in law , who used to call me a dimmer-crat.

He said from now on , he will be voting for Democrats , after seeing what Mitch Daniels has done to our state (Indiana)

As these conversations were going on , my Republican sister was agreeing with everything that was said.

I would not be one bit surprised to see my state turn Blue

1. Congratulations on the birth of your family!
This is good news! I hope we hear many more stories like this.

The only people who bash socialized medicine are those who know nothing about it. I had a boss from Canada who moved her family business to California. When I helped her sign up for the health benefits she had to pay for, she thought it was the most ridiculous thing she'd ever seen in her life. She was born and raised in Canada, and had lived in England for 10 years... she loved the system... she's a billionaire... and a Democrat!

10. Kind of takes the wind out of "their" support the troops bull...
doesn't it?

We haven't even supported the returning troops from the past two wars!

No one should have to fight for medical services for someone who put themselves on the line with the intention of fighting for our country.

4. My sister lives in Indy
She likes Daniels because "he does what he says he is going to do". I said that if that is true, the only way anyone should support him is if he stops saying he is going to do anything because anytime he opens his mouth money flies out of the middle class's pocket and flows directly into the uber-riches.

8. the last straw with my R family
was when he sold our toll roads to foreign interests

NOT because of homophobia , but because the citizens of our state got a royal screwing.Every time we pay a toll , we pay it to Australians, and it will be like that for the next 75 years, while our roads deteriorate.

11. I asked her about that
I asked "So you are okay with him selling off the roads for which you are still paying and which bring in a lot of money for the state?"

She said "oh, you don't think that was a good idea".

At first I sputtered, but then said "hey you were just complaining about real estate tax assessments going sky high. What did you get out of the sell off of the toll road deal? Higher taxes and more bond issues to pay for that's what"

She's still sticking with the GOPer. What can I say. I tried.

9. Woohoo! So glad they are out from under the Goebbels-Rove
propaganda blanket. I guess people have to see it and live it. maybe Bush's refusal to throw a few extra bucks to the troops for the last pay raise has something to do with it, too.

12. Tim said
that they are sending him young boys with NO training who are scared half to death , and therefore dangerous to themselves and others. It is very sad

My niece didn't have time to tell me much , but conditions over there are much worse tham most people believe.

13. Excellent news. I spoke to a Marine last night. He waits tables.
He and his wife had been Republicans...not anymore. He asked if there was anything the American people could do to reign in Bush's over-reaching. He was in the early invasion of Afghanistan.

JitterbugPerfume, I know this is a great victory for you. I've worked on family for decades. Thanks for the good news.
