Pentagon officers found guilty of proselytism charges
By staff writers
8 Aug 2007

In the USA the Pentagon's Inspector General has found against seven military officers, including four generals, who engaged in misconduct three years ago when they appeared in a controversial promotional video for an evangelical group called Christian Embassy, contravening proselytism regulations.

Constitutionally, no-one serving in the US military is allowed to seek converts while on active duty. However, as Ekklesia previously reported, the officers concerned appeared in uniform in the evangelical video.

According to The Washington Post and other news sources, much of the film was shot inside the Pentagon itself.

A former Acting Secretary of the Air Force within the US administration, Pete Geren, appeared in the video.

Mikey Weinstein, an Air Force Academy graduate and former assistant counsel under President Reagan who founded the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, which asked for the investigation, told CNN TV that it was an open-and-shut case.

He declared: " were absolutely proselytizing. ... Numbers of them had actually led Christian Embassy Bible studies. They were well aware what this was about."

..more..

4. There are far too many opportunites for abuse within the military..
For that sort of behavior to not be prohibited.

And yet it happens quite a lot anyway.

Fundies are so used to pushing their faith on others that they do it as easily as breathing and stopping such a habit is as difficult as quitting smoking.

"Commentators point out that the issue of Christian proselytism is especially sensitive at the moment because al Qaeda and other hard-line Islamist groups often make the claim that the US military is in a crusade against Islam."

5. "They were well aware what this was about."
That chutzpah is EVERYWHERE. They think they are entitled to shove their entire belief system down our throats. And of course, at the top of that belief is that they, and only they, can lead.

7. you said it.
they put their collection of fariy tales ahead of the constitution, and when the shit hits the fan, which do they choose to support first? certainly not their oaths to the constitution.

10. What? Christians forcing their religion down other people's throats?
That would NEVER happen.

11. Especially not in a free country that permits people to practice the
religion of their choice.

9. These Christians are a rot in the U.S. military.
The disease is especially rampant in the U.S. Air Force, to the point where that institution should probably be disbanded.

They do not serve the Constitution, instead they see themselves as Instruments of God.

14. The so called Christian RWing has been infiltrating all
American Institutions for well over 30 years now. They are the "new" Crusaders, the Jesus Warriors. I consider the "religious" RWing as dangerous as al Q & the Taliban. When Rosie O'Donnell mentioned this she was practically crucified by the RWing. Of course, they screamed that she should not be allowed on TV. She was 100% correct & the RWing zealots damn well know it.

I highly recommend it.
