DAX June 1996 - August 2007

She had tripped over her own feet on Sunday while we were giving her a bath. At first we thought she had pulled a muscle or something. This morning she wasn't any better so we brought her to the vet.

Vet took a wiff of her breath, and the the fact she had lost 10 pounds in a little over a month sent up some flags. They ran blood work - kidneys were barely functioning.

The treatment that could be offered would be IV's - that may have given her a month at best, maybe a couple of weeks. We've been through the IV treatments with another dog and a cat, didn't work, seemed to make things worse - so we opted not to put Dax through it.

We'll miss the old pumpkin' head

1. should mention
the fall she took on Sunday had nothing to do with kidneys ... all the fall did was bring our attention tuned to her having difficulty getting up and moving around...

2. R.I.P. Dax. You have my deep sympathy, radfringe.

I still remember the deep pain I felt when my Black Lab, Bo, died. There is NO way to express how deeply it hurt.

3. I'm really sorry for you and your family...
She was a beautiful little lady. Willy and me are very sad now too. She will love playing with my old hound dog Howdy at the Rainbow Bridge. They will never be fenced in again and will be free to roam to their heart's content, forever.

7. thank-you all
have lost many pets over the years, doesn't get any easier.

we have two other dogs, rescued greyhounds and 5 cats - so at this point we aren't talking about getting a 3rd, perhaps we'll do some more fostering of greyhounds but it's too soon for any serious discussion.

My partner had Dax since she was pup, I met Dax when she was year old.

My partner doesn't handle these things well, so I was with Dax at the end. She'll be cremated, we'll have her ashes in a couple of weeks. I took care of packing up Dax's food/water bowls and bed.

It was a bit of a shock, we had figured the grand dame of the house, Kudra, our 21 year old snowshoe cat would be the next to go. She's still in good shape for an old lady - although we do have to pick her up to put her on the bed - not as spry as she use to be.

9. No, it never gets easier. I have had too many beloved friends leave me and when my dog Maggie,
an Irish Terrier, who was 15 passed over 5 years ago, I said never again. Two months later we brought a beautiful little kitten, Amy, into our home and a month ago, Charlie, an orange tabby kitten joined us too. I guess never say never.

Rescuing greyhounds is wonderful work. Blessings to your whole family.
