Durbin, In Iraq Now, Interviewed By NPR This Morning
Sen. Dick Durbin is in Baghdad observing "The Surge" for himself. He was interviewed by NPR today. Audio here:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=12586293

Some things he said:
"It's hotter than a furnace"
"No evidence of the Iraqi government in this area, none"
No Iraqi troops involved in the surge that he can see.
"I don't know if we left in 10 months or 10 years if there would be a remarkable difference....progress is slow going... This is unsustainable for the American people"
The Bush administration is not accepting that the Maliki government is not a government of national unity.

1. He also spoke with a soldier on the transport plane
The soldier asked Durbin if they were getting out soon. Durbin explained that four Republican Senators crossed over to vote with the Dems but that they needed seven more to do so. The soldier said that he wished Senators could come and spend a day with him to see what the soldiers life was like in iraq.

3. Who are potential cross-over repubs and how can we help set this up (time spent
with soldiers, in Iraq)?

2. I'm glad he's not waiting for Petraus' report but going to see for himself
Yes, this is a shameless kick.
