What are the stats??? How many deaths due to insurgency and how many due to terrorism? |

The WH and many Republicans continue to focus on fighting due to al Qaeda and ignore fighting due to the insurgency since justifying the use of American troops in a civil war is greatly more difficult than justifying their use against sworn terrorists ("If we don't fight them there . . ." etc.)
But what are the stats? How can we find out a month-by-month breakdown of both American and Iraqi deaths due to these two types on conflict? (I know there's overlap and it can be difficult determining who did what, but I'm sure someone reputable has this posted somewhere.)
And this could be the clincher that makes our case! If the American citizen can see that as much (if not more) violence comes from the civil war than al Qaeda, then they will legitimately ask: Why are American soldiers standing between irreconcilable enemies? (And they KNOW this clash of Shiite and Sunni will continue beyond our tenure in Iraq.) That is, they will see we're hopelessly in the middle of an ongoing fight and demand withdrawal now rather than later . . . after more American deaths and still no end of the fighting.)
