103-F in Greenville, SC, today .. |
|
At 9pm it is 88-F in my upstairs study (computer room). It is still 95 outside. We are 1000-ft above sea level. We are in the Blue Ridge foot hills! I left Dallas because of this kind of heat. WTF?
:wtf:

2. Death Valley days all over again |
|
I can't believe how hot it is out there. It's as bad as Atlanta, and I'm a good bit further North. It's just brutal. I sort of collapsed on the golf course the other day and had to quit playing and rest. I've decided I'm not going back out there until fall comes.
If this is indeed part of a larger warming trend, summer in the South is soon going to become as bad as Florida, but without the breeze.

3. Chicago isn't nearly that hot, but it's been a steambath for the last week and a half... |
|
It rained late this afternoon, so the temperature is down but the humidity is still high.
Thank the gods for AC.

7. Glad you checked in, dear! You OK? |
|
Dr. D. called me from her Arlington Heights office (Chicago, for the uninitiated) late this afternoon and said, "I just wanted to let you know that I'm OK."
"Why should I be worried?," sez me (worried, now).
"We've been in the basement for a tornado," sez Dr. D.!
I called her back later to tell her that Chicago had been upstaged ny Brooklyn. Tornado with damage in downtown Brooklyn!

9. Where I now live 10 miles due west of downtown.... |
|
we just had lots of welcome rain. Delighted that Dr. D. is fine, no clue that was going on to the NW. It was bad up there on Monday night as well. Worse up in McHenry and Lake counties and Rockford.
Yeah, a tornado in Brooklyn??? What the heck????

11. When I checked my radar repeater .. |
|
There was one little cell in the Chicago area, between downtown and O'Hare. It was maxed out out 40,000 ft .. not exactly tornado material. I guess it dissipated rapidly after visiting Dr. D. in 60006.

12. That is good news.... |
|
I hope that we all remain safe. It has been extremely dry here and the recent rain is welcome. But NOT the flooding and tornado warnings that have occurred elsewhere in the area.
I am in 60130.

10. An acquaintance just moved there from here, Las Cruces, NM |
|
where we've had a pleasant summer...only about a week or so of very hot temps (with very low humidity).....and a nice monsoon season with rains, not only at night, but during the day sometimes. I've even been able to take the sunshade off the plants, which are now in their second cropping.
(We're about 4500 ft above sea level)
