JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi's Republican governor, Haley Barbour, easily won his party's nomination on Tuesday, and will face another wealthy attorney in November as he seeks a second term in a state still recovering from the widespread destruction of Hurricane Katrina.
Barbour brushed aside a primary challenge Tuesday from political unknown Frederick Jones of Gulfport, who made few campaign appearances.
Barbour will face Democrat John Arthur Eaves Jr., a trial lawyer from the Jackson suburb of Madison, in the Nov. 6 general election.
Barbour said in a written statement that the general election will be "a choice between conservative Republicans versus liberal Democrats."
"I am prepared both to run on my record and to set out my vision for Mississippi's bright future," said Barbour.
