Tomorrow Comes
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 04:02 AM by Mythsaje
As much as they'd like to deny it, to turn back the clock to whatever time turns their little minds, the calendar turns and the world that was becomes the world that is. Whatever age they're trying to reclaim, be it the gilded age, the roaring twenties, or the Leave-it-to-Beaver facade of the 1950s, when they tried to pretend the nuclear family was intact while living under the shadow of nuclear terror, they cannot turn back the clock.

Time marches on, and with it marches humanity. Even in the most forgotten corners of the world, the future gains a toe-hold, and nothing remains the same for long. The world described by the Bible they worship is as gone as any other, and the ultimate peace they think they can attain by bringing the rest of us to "salvation" is as much an illusion as any other they hold dear to their hearts.

The age of the robber barons is long gone, and an attempt to return to that time is as misguided and doomed to failure as any attempt to travel into the past would be. Even as ignorant as some Americans have become, even as deluded as they've allowed themselves to be, they would not easily tolerate the kind of abject subjugation the robber barons would prefer.

The sheer innocence of the 1920s, before they knew the depths of the Great Depression, is beyond us now. We know that we can be brought down, that we can lose everything in a single moment of pure economic destruction. Some believe it will never happen again, but, deep down, they harbor doubts. It happened once, so it can happen again.

The last days of absolute faith, when people knew their place, and everyone fell in behind the notion of America's Great Destiny was the 50s, and this, as much as any other time, was just as much an illusion. It was a white-bread world, a world where women "knew their place," and no one tolerated the help getting "uppity."

We are not those people anymore, as much as some people would like us to be. We all believe we have a right to something better, to love who we will, and that all men and women are "created equal."

Yes, there are those who'd like to turn back the clock, but this ain't a fucking time machine. Time marches forward, not backward. Time progresses. And as much as some would wish otherwise, we march along with it.

They may hate the fact that women are equal to men, and that our children are growing more tolerant of gays, and that fewer people are willing to accept the notion that blacks and hispanics are somehow inherently worth less than white folks, but TIME MARCHES ON and despite everything they try to do, people are learning better.

Right now we are living in a time of great fear and distrust, but even that cannot hold forever. The fear they've tried to generate will dissipate someday, and, when it does, we will have learned something anew. Fear is the only thing we have to fear.

Tomorrow comes, and with it a new dawn. They cannot hold back the sun, or the light of reality as it spreads across the globe. Humanity demands we open our eyes, and see what we may become once we thrust away the dark shadow they've tried to cast across our vision.

We've seen our enemy and he is US. But we've also seen our ultimate ally, and he is also US. In us resides both darkness and light and, in the end, light always burns away the shadow, for that is what light does.

We cannot be held back, and held apart, forever. Inch by inch the barriers between us are lowered. And that is what they've tried so long and hard to prevent.

We are Humanity and we are ONE. Any division we suffer is artificial, and only serves to make us easy prey for those who feed upon us.

I've had enough.

Tomorrow Comes. Are you ready?

I am.
