War with China? The topic came up during the AFL-CIO debate. |
|
Given the choice of describing China as an ally or adversary, Richardson, Obama, Clinton and Biden referred to China as a competitor. However, Dodd discussed the possibility of going to war with China (over what?) and the need to prep our armed forces. As far as I know, our defense forces are far larger than China's and we have also engaged in provocative behavior such as shooting down a satellite. Why is anyone setting up to pick a fight with China now?

1. Why should they want a war with us? |
|
They can just buy us if we get to be too big of a pain in the ass.

2. Sometimes I wish we could weed out all the warmongers all |

over the world, give them their own little island and leave the rest of us in peace.
If China really wanted to hurt us, it could stop shipping shoes and we'd all be barefoot in 6 months!

3. Because we dug that hole. |

As Kucinich said. Just because it is simple to drop a bomb down the tube, doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. What is right, what is wrong? That is up for us all to decide. War is not the answer. Some candidates want you to believe that it is. Who's side are you on?

4. China. Can they even imagine BRIC? |
|
Our leadership is still playing with the world as it was, not as it is. While Georgie was playing CINC, the world moved on without the United States. New alliances, new contracts, new provisions for protection in a world in which the United States is rogue, not ally.

5. Any war over Taiwan would be illegal on our behalf |
|
how the hell would one invoke the self defense clause for a nation that is not recognized by the United Nations? China would be justified in nuking us for interfering in a internal civil war.

6. the navy is already planning for a naval war with china. |
|
the last i read is the boys in the navy figure it will take china at least 15 yrs to equal the fire control systems that the usa has today. we already conduct naval games in the area targeting chinese coastal cities and shipping lanes. it will not be a land war because we would lose but a naval war is a good possibility.
that said the real war this century will be china -india because both countries are on a collision course over natural resources and over population

7. Land invasions by either side cannot succeed. However, in the |
|
event that either County were to become dominant in space based weaponry, the outcome could well be decided by default. In other words, when either side is able to launce an all out space based attack, taking out most of the cities of the other, the weaker side would be forced to surrender without a single launce.
That type of attack would be over within minutes after it started. Any thoughts of defending against hundreds of simultaneous incoming MERV's is out of the question. The more vulnerable side would know that in advance.
Of course, we could revert back to the old cold war concept of mutually assured destruction which would also mean that most of the worlds inhabitants would either die or become incapacitated by the effects of the radiation.
Face it, the human race isn't intelligent enough to extricate itself from the terrible situation it has created. There are individuals who are smart enough but they aren't in a political or military position to head off the catastrophe.
