President Bush Continues to Defend an Iraqi Government Unable or Unwilling to Make Political Sacrifices
August 9th, 2007 by Speaker Pelosi

Today, in our fifth year of war in Iraq, the President should not be asking the American people for more time on behalf of the Iraqi government, but he should be asking the Iraqi leaders why they will not meet key political benchmarks by September 15. While saying that not enough progress has been made, the President continues to support a war without end, stand behind a policy that is clearly failing, and defend an Iraqi government that is unable or unwilling to make the political sacrifices necessary for national reconciliation.

The President stubbornly refuses to develop a redeployment plan or devise a redeployment schedule, preferring to hope, despite the abundance of evidence to the contrary, that the report by General Petraeus in September will paint a different picture of political progress in Iraq. It is long past time to set a New Direction for our policies in Iraq.

1. And YOU, Speaker Pelosi, keep giving George Bush everything he wants.
So what's the difference?

He makes excuses, you put him in a position to keep making excuses.

3. Why should the Iraqi government make sacrifices when our own Dems cave into Bush
Nancy, you're not a model of political courage.

4. Dems need to speak out against the Oil Law
first of all, let's drop all the framing and spin and stop calling the Oil Law the "Hydrocarbon Law."

you call it a "Hydrocarbon Law" when you don't want people to know the US is over there helping Big Oil steal oil from the Iraqi people. We're not stealing their "hydrocarbons", are we??????

if the Democrats passed a funding bill that barred any private oil company from entering into any agreement with the Iraqi government while the US still had any troops inside Iraq, bush would get them out of there the very next day. if Democrats really wanted the war and occupation to end, they'd take the big prize off the table. it's clear they have no interest in ending the occupation anytime soon.

5. It has become politically expedient to blame the Iraqis for their plight.
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 02:01 PM by Dhalgren
I have heard more and more Democrats using this argument and I wonder why? It must just be easier, pr-wise, to fault the Iraqis. I guess that it is easier for the public to deal with all of this being the Iraqis' fault... :eyes:

6. Pelosi is one to talk
As head of the 'Capitulation Congress' she doesn't have ANY room to speak on this issue - I have yet to see her sacrifice a thing, or even take a substantial political risk.

7. Nancy needs to understand 'political sacrifice' does not mean
giving chimpy everything he wants and ignoring her oath to protect the Constitution.

8. Go Away, Nancy
When Pelosi (and Reid) loses all credibility even on DU, it's time to turn leadership over to someone else.

11. Rep. Pelosi was touted as being tough. She is far from that.
She is a wuss. Yeah, she may be a nice person but the Regime that she is up against is in "War" mode on America. It seems that she simply does not grasp that concept. Pelosi & Reid seem to think that this Regime can be reasoned with. This Regime cannot be reasonable. This Regime is in the Fascist Police State mode and is Hell bent on destroying the Dem Party & America as a Republic. It seems that the Dem leaders are either clueless or complicit.
