a very odd Bush photo from 2002
Setting the scene here....he's in Berlin. He's passing by a German honor guard.

Note the position of Bush's right hand.

Now note the expressions on the honor guard's faces. Pure contempt, and for good historical reasons.

1. He's trying to be like Grandpa's good friend...

I noticed even Colin Powell looks disgusted in that photograph.

3. They are instructed never to smile. It's got nothing to do with Pres. Bush. nt

6. I do declare, I have never read here on DU
anybody describe the shrub as "President Bush." It seems... so out of place.

Contempt is more than the absence of a smile, no?

7. Well, Dems got angry when that ass Santorum called Pres. Clinton, "Bill,"...
we have to hold ourselves to our standards.

Trust me, those sailors don't give a rat's ass about Pres. Bush and honor guards are trained to have poker faces.

5. nice
what a putz.

And yes, even if they are instructed to not smile, at least a few of them obviously are looking at his gesture in a funny way.

8. The thing about "honor guards" is....they're often made up of people who have HONOR.
The type of people who have a certain reaction to
a lying POS like our pResident, be they Hungarian:

Vietnamese:

Indian:

Chinese:

ANYWHERE he goes in the world to walk past an "Honor guard",
there are always a few members who can't help but look at him
like something they found on the bottom of their shoe.

And I think he KNOWS it:
