It seems to me that 'Tax And Spend Democrats" may be inevitable.
Every time there's a nut job Republican in office, they gut the shit out of our country and our treasury and starve us to near bankruptcy. Lots of spending, no revenue.

Then it is left to the Democrats to fix things.

And there is no fairy with a magic wand to do that.

So we have to increase taxes and spend money just to get back to even, let alone ahead.

As long as this pattern continues, we'll be strapped with that label unless we can make it clear what taxes buy for us.

This is part of why I favor high taxes on the wealthy. This is why I favor targeted tax increases - to burdensome levels - on corporations who fail to be good citizens. It is also why I favor a substantial cut in defense spending - not in operational spending, but on the new, outrageously expensive weapon systems that are the stock in trade of the military industrial complex.

Just today, in his drug addled presser comments, Chimpus Maximus made it clear that bridges and highways will have to wait, but he's NOT going to even consider a gas tax increase. Has this guy levied even one new tax in his time in office?

1. Lots of spending, no revenue
Not only do they spend a lot of money, but they spend the money on pointless projects such as the Iraq war, promoting marriage, abstinence only, religious charities... They spend this money while at the same time cutting the regulatory bodies that often have the job of making sure the money is correctly accounted for.

3. No, it's not "Tax and Spend Democrats." Don't even say that crap on this board.
Democrats could possibly REPEAL the TAX CUTS from the Republicans. The money has to come from somewhere.

Republicans BORROW and SPEND, SPEND, SPEND! This is way worse! Additionally, they've destabilized the dollar, which devalues it, and basically is the same as taking money OUT of YOUR pocket (that $20 bill in your pocket is now worth less than $20). Thieves, all of them.

Don't fall into the "Tax and Spend Democrat" trap. That's a Republican phrase, and you are promoting Republicans every time you say that phrase.

6. Oh, babe
You are so r..er, left it makes my heart go boom!

Dems are the party of fiscal responsibility and spending for the family, while the radical-right taxes the children and wastes their inheritance.

7. Whoa ...... I'm on your side
And I bought into nothing. I know what we'll do when we take office in 09 (he said as if it were inevitable). Much as you suggest.

That won't stop the right wing demagogues from saying ti and the media from repeating it. Which is what my OP was about. We need to counteract that shit.

11. Right on...
Media spin is a touchy spot with me... it is a constant battle to counteract the phrases the right wing slips in there. When I see folks from our side using the Republican catch phrases, I react. Nothing personal against you... :)

Its a bone for the Repubs who have to run against us. He just wants the fight. He doesn't care as much about the outcome.

5. My Mom said to me, Will the democrats raise our taxes?
I replied, "yes, they certainly will. We have a trillion dollar war to pay for and China ownes us lock stock and loan right now".

Don't position it as tax-n-spend as in NEW initiatives -- lay out that we are left to clean up the mess the (R) government left us in.
