Police: Baby Left In Fla. Heat While Mom Shops
Police: Baby Left In Fla. Heat While Mom Shops

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- A 29-year-old Central Florida woman is accused of leaving her 6-month-old son in a car with the windows rolled up in the Florida heat while she shopped, according to police.

Officers said several teen girls noticed the baby boy strapped in a seat inside a car parked at a shopping center off Nova Road and Port Orange.

They said the child was drenched in sweat and his face was red from the heat.

"He was screaming and kicking," rescuer Caitlyn Meierer said. "I mean he was hot and sweating. He was just drenched with sweat and tears from crying. That is what scared us the most is because he looked hot. He was bright red."

2. and she claims "He was in the car for 5 minutes" and she thinks that makes it ok?
idiot. You do not leave children alone in a car for 5 minutes or 5 hours.

14. I live in Florida and I can vouch for that. LOTS of uneducated, poor, mentally ill people.
I guess no different than lots of the other poor states.

17. That may be true
but unfortunately there are MANY willfully ignorant people here that are not uneducated, poor or metally ill - and most of them are my neighbors - these folks are selfish, greedy, unfriendly and STUPID. I unfortunately moved into a gated community - not because I was particularly interested in the gate but just happened to like the house I bought - and A LOT of these folks in this gated community think they are pretty darn special...and you know what THEY ARE NOT.

11. I have to agree
I live about an hour south of Daytona and it was no where near 113 yesterday - maybe 93 - maybe the thermometer was in direct sun or something....

12. I'm pretty sure the actual temperature in central florida has never reached 100.
I lived in Tampa for 18 years. It gets -hot-, for sure and damned humid, but...not 113. Never happened.
:hi:
