An urgent appeal for all you Dennis Kucinich supporters: PLEASE STOP

DOn't you remember when you were in elementary school, there was always the kid who looked like..like Dennis. You didn't hang out with him, did you? You never invited him over to your house, right?

Well if gets our nomination just think of how much fun everybody will make of him. And then we'll be stuck with the nerdy guy.

OK? So just remember, if Dennis Kucinich is our nominee, the folks over at WTFox News WILL MAKE FUN OF YOU. You may not even get invited to their Christmas party.

Newt will make fun of us.

Tom Delay will make fun of us.

Karl Rove will make fun of us.

Pat Robertson will make fun of us.

Ann Coulter will mock us.

Michelle Malkin will call for our internment.

Billow Riley will be critical of us.

So if you want all these people to make fun of us, go ahead and nominate DK. IF you want their respect, then vote for anyone but DK. No, wait...

8. And don't forget all the people on DU who will make fun of you!
Basically: Don't support Kucinich if you don't want to be mocked for being an idealist, pie in the sky, a dreamer, or, god FORBID, a "woo woo". Because it will be VERY embarrassing for you. Be a good Democrat and let those "in the know" choose the nominee for you. Absolutely do NOT attempt to think for yourself or exercise your own right to choose who best represents your beliefs. Let OTHERS decide who is electable and who isn't. Just face it: they have special knowledge of the mind of the American people, and you...don't.

15. My question is
How do you get through to the huge number of voters who are hung up on candidate's superficial qualifications? The MSM has shirked its responsibility. Rather than spending time presenting how a candidate would lead our country, they serve an unbalanced diet of junk reporting. Now, too many voters are conditioned to think the country needs a leader with an average priced hair style and no moles.

16. My alternate theory
There are two separate election worlds. The soap opera that is played out 24/7 on the cable infotainment shows, and the real debate that is taking place regarding how/if this country can be salvaged. The corporate candidates and professional consultants are talking about which path to take towards destruction.

My theory is that the set of people who are easily led into the existing mindset are the ones being counted and heard. The other set of people is communicating on the internet. Every liberal site I go to has the same DK threads, and the identical arguments put forth by detractors.

I'm going to gamble that there are actually more of us than there are of them come nomination time.

75. Start by voting in the primary.
DK is an excellent debater and never gets flustered or tongue-tied. If he won the primary, the low-information voters would be exposed to him...they aren't likely to vote in the primary anyway. He could beat any of the knuckledraggers on the right hands down IMO.

19. Screw the people and making real change, we just want to look good.
Who cares if Kucinich is made fun of.
He'll make real change and turn things around.
I think this is a lot more important than image.

Bush is made fun of, quite heavily.
But look at the stuff he and his party have done
and he's getting away with it.

Image is nothing
Policy is everything.

22. Well now just hold on a minute.
Edited on Sat Aug-11-07 10:52 AM by Old Crusoe
I'm hoping most of us have evolved a bit from school days in all respects. I hope by now we know a few of our state capitals and the leading products of one or two countries and how to apply deoderant and which end of a battery goes in a flashlight and so forth. I hope we drive more carefully and think more critically and behave more inclusively.

A lot of high school kids elect their class officers based on good looks and popularity.

If my theory is right and we've evolved past that point into considering someone's merits before he or she earns our vote in an election, then Kucinich's seat in Congress is likely safe. His constituents had a primary choice in 06 and they chose Dennis and returned him to Washington. The man's been in public service from a very young age. He's unselfish. A public servant. And refreshingly progressive.

You're asking people who like him and who like him a lot to stop promoting him on the basis of his physical personality for fear Ann Coulter will poke fun at our party?

That doesn't sound like a persuasive argument to me. So I'm hoping ayeshahaqqiqa upthread is correct that this is parody.

101. The initial Post is
A good example of all the things we should not be looking at when we decide what candidate to vote for. Whether he's short, good-looking, beer-drinking, or garden gnomish, are just a few of a long list. How about looking at the positions taken on issues, and deciding which ones you like best, and being pure, and voting for the candidate you think most match what you believe.

Part of what is killing us is listening to the media's ideas of what "we" want. Why not just vote for what "we" want, and not let them tell us.

I like Kucinich, Gravel, and Edwards. Edwards is like last elections's Dean. So far they've not found the "scream" to demonize, but they've been doing it with a lot of little crap, like haircuts, or the rich-guy populist angle, as if a guy who went from rags to riches couldn't understand and like that particular system, and want to continue it. Christ people, we know by now the MSM sucks out your brain, and replaces it with shit. Vote for who "you" want, who "you" like, who "YOU" feel good about, and fuck those corporate media assholes. Do you get over a million a year to talk on camera? I doubt it. It's your vote, use it.

37. I agree with much of what Kucinich says
BUT I'd make a terrible president. I don't care if he is a "nerd", but I don't think he has the necessary qualifications to be president, especially now. Biden is my first choice. No one is better qualified, yet he doesn't get the exposure he deserves unless he puts his foot in his mouth. The media is so superficial (as are we) and focuses on every little spat and stupid misstep, rather than addressing real issues.

DK was a QB on his H.S. football team (tho 3rd string on a not-very-good team). But I don't think you'd call that "nerdy."

He stood up to the mafia in Cleveland and almost got assassinated for it, narrowly escaped getting shot. Nerdy?

He has proven that he's unafraid of any business or corporate entity or individuals. Nerdy?

(Meanwhile the Dems almost to the man jump every time El Presidente sneezes.)

And he doesn't focus on individuals but on PRINCIPLES.

What more could you ask of a candidate?

47. Dennis would make an excellent President.
But unfortunately, America is not mature enough to block out the paid for screeching noise machine that will destroy him and vote for what he stands for.

Yes, Dennis is exactly what this country needs to restore of Government Of By and For the People.

Democrats could take a page from the republicans and figure out how to play the "plain folks" card for a change. No one gets plainer than being homeless when they were growing up.

62. But Dennis is walking very tall
Their Bush is the most embarrassing president America ever has. He can't speak. He looks like the chimp, he looks stupid. (I am not insulting real chimps because even they look more intelligent than he does.)

Let them make fun of him. Let them have Bush and we will have DK.

Edited on Sat Aug-11-07 11:59 PM by Douglas Carpenter
but there is not. Either we support Congressman Dennis Kucinich or there will be no progressive voice even in the primaries raising the most important issues that other candidates are too timid to touch. What kind of democracy would that be?

74. So your the guy who made fun of me in school
Yeah, I was the nerdy guy. I actually enjoyed studying and wasn't the most stylish person--didn't wear designer clothes and stuff like that. And had to deal with jerks like you. But I've done ok. I married a very nice looking woman (just like Dennis has) and have three great kids. Make a decent living. I also try and teach my kids to treat other people as they would like to be treated and that nobody is better than anybody else. You would think that by the time you are a certain age you would be beyond that school nonsense about being "nerds" and being "cool." Heck, we had jerks like Tweety who, probably like you, made fun of the "nerds" going around saying that most people would rather have a beer with Bush! than with Gore, even though Gore got the most votes and George can't even (supposedly) have a beer anymore.

but I do agree with everything you say. I hung with the "nerds" in school, and I still try to surround myself with people as smart or smarter than me. I does pay off- got the good education, good job, good wife, good kids. Being a nerd aint so bad :)

Don't vote for Kucinich because he looks nerdy? This thread should come with a "bury" function. It is that offensively bad. Not "badly offensive" just to be clear, but "offensively bad."

100. The time to worry, really worry, would be if they became ardent fans of yours,
wouldn't it. Some people don't get that. They think that you must take it real hard if they say they don't like you (whch, in reality, would be a fate worse tha death), instead of finding confirmation in it that you must be doing somethings right.
