The Utah Mine Owner Kept Rescuers From Digging Cause Of Non-Existant Seismic Activity! |
|
Rescuers are being prevented from digging by the mine owner who claims the mine collapsed due to an earthquake.
He claims there is still seismic activity which precludes allowing rescuers from digging.
All they can do is drill holes.
THERE WAS NO EARTHQUAKE. There is no dangerous seismic activity.
And the news yesterday claimed that family members and workers are being swept by the police away from the scene to protect them from the press.
That is obvious bullshit. They are being kept from the media hoard to control the message in favor this evil mine owner.
I can't believe this is happening it literally is like the Soviet Union glossing over Chernobyl or China.
And media is helping.

|

3. And he seemed like such a decent, concerned guy in that one press conference |

Hard to believe that he'd subvert the rescue efforts for the sake of the mine's interests...

5. Mine rescues (or any other industrail disaster rescues) |
|
Should not be under the control of the owners. Their responsibility was to keep the mine safe and that is already a abrogated; there's a conflict of interests.
Once a disaster occurs it should be under the control of public safety officials and personnel. Property rights are no longer applicable or appropriate.

8. I echo what cryingshame says -- your post should have a thread of its own. |
|
You make an excellent point -- it seems so obvious, yet everyone just accepts the way it is without even thinking about it.

10. "Seismic activity from mining has been ongoint in the area for decades" |
|
True, but aftershocks from mine collapse are just as real and dangerous underground as aftershocks from a real quake. They recorded aftershocks for 48 hours, up to magnitude 2.5

11. One of the miners said the ground was heaving |
|
On CNN this morning, they said that a family member of one of the miners (Sanchez, I think) said he thought the mine was unsafe near the bottom because the ground was heaving from the pressure. He was afraid to complain for fear of losing his job.
