1. He's playing the midwestern values card.
Except I have lived in the midwest all my life and I live in Wisconsin and I don't share his values.

8. He was governor of WI for 16 years- up til 2000
Then he was in the Bush cabinet as Director of Health and Human Services, just during the first Admin. He wasn't enough of a yes man, that ended in 2004.

10. So basically there's no reason I should give a shit about him one way or another
Edited on Sat Aug-11-07 03:19 PM by ThomWV
One wonders why there would be notification about 'on C-Span" so I might watch some second tier Republican spew more of their hatered and lies. He certainly holds no interest for me.

On edit: Recognized that I had mistaken what the origianl Author intended to say.

14. Probably not, but
weirdly enough- he may do really well at this poll today because he visited all 99 counties. So if Iowa matters he may end up being a contender.

3. Apparently Tommy is going to quit if he doesn't do well in the Straw Poll today.
I think this is his goodby speech!

15. The story that he's quitting has been all over CNN & MSNBC all day.
In fact they said the same thing about Huckabee. Apparently the Pubs take this straw thing pretty serious!

4. He's talking about saving Medicare.
But not with some big socialist program like the Dems want to. He wants to defeat cancer...
He's actually one of the least stupid candidates.

9. No, that's Fred Thompson, different guy.
This one has never been an actor.

12. I was joking - I know the difference between the two of them.
I know Tommy Thompson well from way back. Believe me, he is not a smart man.

16. We're talking about Republicans here
so I don't judge too harshly. If they can put together a sentence, and know the difference between state and federal programs, they're smart.

11. Fred Thompson is the actor, much better known
and I think he was a Senator. Tommy was Governor of WI for 16 years and was in Bush's cabinet. He isn't nearly as well known as he thinks he is, and is not a great fundraiser. But he's not stupid and he isn't horrible compared to some of these candidates. He's not extreme.

13. oh yeah i know who they are but when i see Huckabee and T. Thompson
they look exactly the same to me. Yes F. Thompson was a senator with quite an unremarkable record and he was also one of Nixon's lawyers during watergate.

17. Is he still blaming Wisconsin ?
There was an article in a WI paper the other day in which he blamed his poor campaign thus far on "Wisconsin not supporting him".

Well fuck, his WIFE won't even give money to his campaign!!! If she thinks he a dipshit, why would anyone in the state - let alone the rest of the country - give his cranky, drunken ass a dime?

19. Well, maybe he needs to accept that we're glad he is gone.
Or in my case, I'm glad I just missed him. I moved to WI in 2000, just in time for him to go to Washington. Then we had 2 years of his dipshit Lt. Governor. We should have a bumper sticker that says "Tommy Thompson: Never again"
