Animal Rights activists aim to kill researcher at UCLA
http://www.laweekly.com/news/news/monkey-madness-at-ucla/16986/

THE HOME OF DR. ARTHUR ROSENBAUM isn’t hard to find. He lives a few blocks south of Sunset Boulevard, near the UCLA campus, in a white two-story house with a front yard jammed with aspen trees. There is a short driveway on the side of the home, and during the evening, a bright, white light illuminates the carport. If someone wants to sabotage the doctor’s car under the cover of night, a flashlight isn’t needed.

On Sunday, June 24, just that kind of person struck. Rosenbaum, a highly regarded pediatric ophthalmologist who had been regularly harassed by animal-rights activists for his research work with cats and rhesus monkeys at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, noticed a device underneath his luxury sedan. The bomb squad was dispatched to the scene and hauled away a makeshift — but deadly — explosive. A faulty fuse was the only reason it didn’t go off.

....

Besides posting communiqués and press releases on the NAALPO Web site, Vlasak understands that his medical background gives the animal-rights movement a certain amount of cachet. Journalists come to him for quotes, and he gives them. In a 2004 interview with the London Observer, he said, “I don’t think you’d have to kill too many . I think for five lives, 10 lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, 2 million, 10 million nonhuman lives.” Those remarks caused him to be banished from England, but in Southern California, he practices surgery at Riverside Community and Parkview Community hospitals in Riverside County, as well as Community Hospital and San Antonio Community Hospital in San Bernardino.

2. Fucking hypocritical asshole.
Vlasak is a freaking surgeon. How many of his standard surgical techniques were originally perfected on animals? And now he advocates death to those who use animals to even further advance medical science. Can you say hypocritical murdering bastard?

5. Maybe you're right.
Sometimes people do things that make them sick and they turn against those very things?

6. If that's the case
then, rather than advocating their death, he should be trying to convince his opponents to see the light as he did.

Horrible what Rosenbaum is doing, and horrible what they're trying to do to him.

I can see why there's no peace.

8. No, anonymous idiots threaten researcher.
Please show me where it was confirmed that this was an action by "Animal Rights activists" please.

I mean, DU has Freeper trolls...

And since Vlasak is at least twice removed from this story, let's leave the obvious links out of it.

10. Why would I?
The author has no proof, no names, no nothing. As much as others like to buy into the hatred of a certain demographic, I'm not like that so much.

But hey, if it works for you, then good for you.

21. I don't have any reason
to doubt the story. It seems to be in line with plenty of actions taken by animal rights terrorists. A so-called animal rights group has taken credit.

It is the simplest explanation. Your view requires some weird counter-conspiracy.

that this was some sort of counter-attack by... um.... somebody who really really likes animal testing?

why all the insults? Provide some evidence - it makes a better argument.

12. It's unfortunate that this issue is tainted by loons
A lawsuit by a group of physicians was just filed against UCSF. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2007/08/01/BA54RALJI2.DTL&type=printable

I understand the urgency, but violence is not the solution.

17. I despise animal research. In many cases, other avenues are
available but not taken. I despise people who harm those they don't agree with. This loon needs jail. But it doesn't say 'animal rights' people, that is inferred.

28. Here are a couple of snippets:

“130am on the twenty forth of june: 1 gallon of fuel was placed and set a light under the right front corner of Arthur Rosenbaums large white shiney BMW.

“He and his wife ..., living at ... in la, are the target of rebellion for the vile and evil things he does to primates at UCLA. We have seen by our own eyes the torture on fully concious primates in his lab. We have heard their whimpers and screeches of pain. Seeing this drove one of us to rush out and vomit. We have seen hell and its in Rosenbaums lab.

“Rosenbaum, you need to watch your back because next time you are in the operating room or walking to your office you just might be facing injections into your eyes like the primates, you sick twisted fuck.

“Demonstrators need to realize that just demonstrating won’t stop this kind of evil. Look up Arthur Rosenbaum to find out about his experiment from two thousand four threw two thousand seven. ‘animal liberation brigade’”

.....

18. also, I remember the outrage around here over Frist using animals
he took as pets for this sort of thing. on the issue itself, it is strange to condemn one and uphold the other. (Delete the attack from the discussion and how are they different? If the outcome is to advance medicine, then how are they different?) Just asking. :)

Edited on Sat Aug-11-07 10:18 PM by dflprincess
Frist was "adopting" the animals and using them to satisfy his own curiosity - he was not looking to advance any medical knowledge except his own. And, while I am not comfortable with animal research, this doctor was doing actual research which could result in advances in treatment of eye diseases.

Or notice that all the recent "terrorist" cells seem to have been put together by "informants?"

SOP is to create bogus events so "loyal citizens" can further the propaganda campaign and provide PR justifications for increasing the power of the state to take down those who challenge corporatism. After the coup of 12/12/2000 the first act of Asscrapt was to put "eco-terrorism" and such at the top of the FBI's priorities, above many others that had actually killed people but posed no threat to corporatism. It seems you agree.

(edit typo)

36. I noticed that detail also.
Maybe just incompetent idiots at work. Or a typical, but atypically benign, false flag operation. In either case it will be publicized by agents of influence to promote corporatism. These operatives will scream and yell about the threat to civilization posed by environmentalists, animal rights activists, and whoever challenges the status quo, and urge acquiescence to people to just lie down, "be reasonable," and not question our leaders.
