The Hill: Rep. Schakowsky: Petraeus hints at decade-long Iraq presence
Gen. David Petraeus told a congressional delegation visiting the Middle East that success in Iraq will require a U.S. military presence there for about a decade, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said Friday.

The commander of U.S. troops in Iraq, who will deliver a highly anticipated progress report next month, said the U.S. “will be in Iraq in some way for 9 or 10 years,” according to Schakowsky. The general also highlighted progress in Anbar province, where former Sunni insurgents have turned against Al Qaeda extremists in recent months.

1. My nephew is in the Army Nat'l Guard
and he's been saying the same thing. They expect to be there for many years. I selfishy hoped it would end before he finishes his training so he wouldn't have to go. He's to precious to "waste" on *'s war.

2. Do they plan for the Middle Class to pay for this too??
If the GOP have any decency left and want a penny"s worth
of Credibility, they had better stop talking about taxcuts
and start being honest. Just rebuilding the Military is going
to cost sums I cannot immagine. We have to replace all that
equipment--Humvees, helicopters. We owe China one trillion dollars
already. We have to pay them the Interest on this monthly.

The Starve the Beasters would of course use up the Social
Safety Net so they could end SS Medicare and Medicaid.
You really have to watch the slight of hand Republicans.

They deep talking about how they are bringing the Deficit
down. The War is not even on the books.

3. Then he should stay in Iraq until the occupation is over.
And reduce his pay for each year he fails to make the exit.
