About Google's Cache... And President-For-Life Bush.
Edited on Sun Aug-12-07 03:43 AM by Syrinx
The other night I was googling "Directive 51" and "U.S. dictatorship" and "cancel elections" and similar terms.

I came across a column on a website called familysecuritymatters.org that ended with this:

"President Bush can fail in his duty to himself, his country, and his God, by becoming “ex-president” Bush or he can become “President-for-Life” Bush: the conqueror of Iraq, who brings sense to the Congress and sanity to the Supreme Court. Then who would be able to stop Bush from emulating Augustus Caesar and becoming ruler of the world? For only an America united under one ruler has the power to save humanity from the threat of a new Dark Age wrought by terrorists armed with nuclear weapons."

By the way, this website is not a freelance organization. It is associated with many prominent neoconservatives, including Elliot Abrams and Doug Feith.

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Center_for_Security_Policy

I saved the URL. And tonight I wanted to post something about it to another discussion board that I sometimes go to.

But there was nothing there anymore.

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/challenges.php?id=1208571

So I figured I could call up Google's cache of the column, since Google was how I found it in the first place.

No dice.

http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:coKTXqJZyFsJ:www.familysecuritymatters.org/challenges.php%3Fid%3D1208571+%22president-for-life+bush%22+site:familysecuritymatters.org&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us

Is there a good explanation of why it would disappear from the cache?

1. Yup
I remember that being blogged about somewhere and the consensus was that was one delirious writer's fantasy, or a practical joke. A lot of derision was heaped on that steaming pile. The reason it's not in Google cache is that cache is "as retrieved on Aug 10, 2007" and they must have pulled it before the 10th.

There are other caches - the 'wayback machine' or something is one.

3. thanks for the input
I'm pretty sure I looked at the article on Friday, but I don't what time in GMT.

I admit I am a wee bit paranoid these days, but I think I deserve to be. :)

4. sure looks like it
It seems a little shorter than the original, though I'm not sure about that. How did you locate that?

5. I did a google search for the first dozen or so words in the excerpt you posted.
For instance:

http://www.google.com/search?q="President Bush can fail in his duty to himself, his country, and his God"

Then I hit the cached link on the first item in the search results.

That search also links to a DU journal entry of the following thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=3434879&mesg_id=3434879#3434879

That opening post appears to have most of the article.

7. The difference appears to be the domain name.
Edited on Sun Aug-12-07 05:38 AM by Make7
In the cache address that you have in your OP, the cached page address is listed as:

   www.familysecuritymatters.org/challenges.php?id=1208571

The search result from what I entered lists it as:

   familysecuritymatters.org/challenges.php?id=1208571

It also appears that the google search that you did was:

http://www.google.com/search?q="president-for-life bush" site:familysecuritymatters.org

Nevertheless, you should probably save a local copy of that page (the working cache) if you want it, I'm sure Google's cache will update it to what appears on the current version of that page before too long.

From my search results, it appears that the article has been commented on at a few places around the web - you could probably find a copy of the article without too much digging if you want something to be able to link to.

8. You're not paranoid
I've noticed for quite a while that when I find a useful site using Google, the page of interest will soon disappear from following searches using the same key words, even though the page might still exist. If I bookmarked it, I usually can find it again, but sites where the boys have access, the page of interest often vanishes in 404 land.
Even the Wayback machine has been subject to being scrubbed.
I know my Web traffic is being monitored as I have been under surveillance for a long time, even before the Internet existed.
The minute I post something the boys don't like, they spike my Internet connection.

One bit of advice is to not sign up as a Google member. I did and many more links began to disappear. The have a contract with the Administration, so they are obviously earning their keep.

I love my country! I know after the election Bush will be out. Maybe one of his daughters will run in a future election? Who knows? Strange site.

12. I know why it disappeared
That article was posted on http://reddit.com (a social bookmarking site) and one of the readers sent a note to the site admin. They responded that they would take the article down and it disappeared shortly after:

Hi,

I am sending you this brief note since I found you as the administrative contact for familysecuritymatters.com.

Do you realize the content that is being posted on your site?

<snip>

I thought this was a joke when I first read it, but sadly it appears not. Some selected quotes:

Advocating Genocide:

"The wisest course would have been for President Bush to use his nuclear weapons to slaughter Iraqis until they complied with his demands, or until they were all dead."

Once again advocating genocide and the overthrow of our government for a fascist regime:

"If President Bush copied Julius Caesar by ordering his army to empty Iraq of Arabs and repopulate the country with Americans, he would achieve immediate results: popularity with his military; enrichment of America by converting an Arabian Iraq into an American Iraq (therefore turning it from a liability to an asset); and boost American prestiege while terrifying American enemies."

"He could then follow Caesar's example and use his newfound popularity with the military to wield military power to become the first permanent president of America, and end the civil chaos caused by the continually squabbling Congress and the out-of-control Supreme Court." This is hardly the type of content I expected on "Family Security Matters". This is propaganda of the worst form, and reminds me of something I would see in 1937 Germany.

For what it's worth, I am a registered Republican.

And the response:

Dear Matthew., You are right and this article will be taken down. I've asked our webmaster to do so.

Thank you for pointing it out.
