Buying Blue: Where Can I Shop?
Edited on Sun Aug-12-07 10:20 AM by Glenda
I'm looking at Open Secrets. I'm looking at the 2006 election cycle, getting contribution for individuals and PACs per company.

{ How To:
Click on one of my links below. On the left first select "Pick Another Sector." Then under "Data for this Sector" select "Top Contributors." Then if you want to go more granular, under "Industries in this Sector" select an Industry. }

Below I show Sector first, then Industry after colon.

*** Misc Business: Retail ***

What's interesting is that NBA Individuals contribute 99% to dems. San Diego Padres and Indianapolis Colts are good too. These are individuals and not franchises, it seems.

2. Careful
From the site:

In many cases, the organizations themselves did not donate; rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates

---
I'd never label a business being anti-Dem unless they were openly against Dems ( like Domino's Pizza for example) When employees donations are factored in, it can really skew the numbers.

For example, my business. I am 100% in my donations to Dems. I have two adult employees. One is a non-active Dem ( votes but doesn't give), one is an active Republican. So if the Republican employee give 100.00 to them and I give 100.00 to the Democrats, then my business would be listed as 50/50.

I'd make my decisions on things like worker rights and benefits and public policy statements.
( Walmart vs Costco for example)

3. It's interesting...
At my current job i have the opportunity to work with several hard-core republicans. Some seem like normal workers to me.

A couple though, seem to have brought what I think of as republican behaviors into their work life. They wonder how much money other people make. They want more money or higher level, but by managing image and not by doing too much work to get there. They like the autocratic (military) management style: taking or receiving orders, rather than collaboration.

Anyway, I hope your republican employee is normal :)
