Church learns vet was gay, cancels memorial
Texas congregation acted out of principle, not malice, pastor says

Kathleen Wright holds an image of her brother, Cecil Sinclair, who recently passed away, on Friday, Aug. 10. Relatives of Sinclair, a gay Navy veteran, say they are upset that a megachurch canceled his memorial service 24 hours before it was to start.

1. It's about "principle."
“We did decline to host the service — not based on hatred, not based on discrimination, but based on principle,” Simons told The Associated Press.

And that principle would be...?

7. No doubt the old "Hate the sin, not the sinner" chestnut came up.
In my experience, most of those who say that actually do hate both.

3. And people wonder why many people have a bad impression of Christianity
Seems like every time someone criticizes cases like these, we are admonished to keep in mind that some Christians are open-minded.

9. Of course
Because acting on principle they also refuse to hold funerals for anybody who ever was divorced, committed adultery, sassed their parents, wore gold/pearl jewelry, stole anything, took the name of the lord in vain, lied, wore clothing made of two different kinds of cloth, cut the hair at the sides of their head, etc, etc. :sarcasm:

15. This is precisely why I loathe all fundamentalist "Christians" and will have nothing to do with them
Edited on Sun Aug-12-07 10:52 AM by KzooDem
I have no use for their brand of thinking and prejudice. If they are co-workers I keep things to business only, with no social chit-chat. If I see resumes come in with degrees listed from evangelical "colleges" I look to find enough things in the resume to either disqualify them for the position they are applying for or move others ahead of them far enough that they won't be considered.

I'm just treating them as they would treat me. Turn the other cheek? Hell no. It's beyond turning the cheek with these annoying cross-toting little cockroaches.

20. I worked with a woman once who's son died of AIDS.. the service was hell
The so called man of God decided to use the entire memorial attacking homosexuality and basically said AIDS was his punishment. His wonderful mother was stunned and mortified. It was so bad it makes the local papers.

I am always amazed how these so called Christians forget the most basic teaching of Christ regarding treating other human beings with respect and compaasion.

Her 'students' let him have it.... wheelchairs went up to the front and fired away at him. :-)

Dorothy was like their mom and they stood up for her.
