What would you do if the * Administration tried to draft you? (age 18-25 DUers) |
|
This is in response to a recent news article I read about one of *'s military advisors recommending the reinstatement of the draft. Sure, Bush claims that he will bring back the draft when hell freezes over, but when has he ever been honest?

1. I'd enlist in the Navy |
|
Just because if I was going to be in the military, the Navy is the branch I'd like to be in. I don't know if it's because I'm totally landlocked, but I've always felt called to the sea. Yeah, I know that's a total cliché. If this were the 1800s or the early 20th century, I'd probably have signed up on a ship's crew just for the experience. Alas, in the real world things seem much less romantic. Still, if there was a draft I would go with the Navy.

3. As a 16 yearold, I would hide |
|
No way would I help in this conflict. My parents have already said that if there was another draft, ever, she would pack up the entire family and we would move to Canada. Take everything we need, and just go.

5. I have a question for the 28-25 male DUers who wouldn't answer their draft call. |

Would you be ready to refuse to answer your call, go to trial, be convicted, and go to prison for your beliefs?
Think twice before you answer my question.
Would you not run away, wait for your prosecution, go to jail with some real criminals, have a criminal record, and know you won't be employed a lot of the time because A) you have a criminal record, and B) you didn't fight for your country? Would you be ready for all that baggage?
My uncle was. He spend several years in Danbury Prison in Connecticut for not fighting in World War II, which was a popular war by comparison to the situation at hand. He tried to defend his right by claiming to be a conscientious objector but the court didn't believe him and sent him to prison. He couldn't get a decent job after he was released and his family life suffered as a consequence. I don't know if he did the right thing for himself and/or his future family at the time, but I'm proud of the fact that he stood up for what he believed in, no matter what the consequences.
I repeat my question to you: would you be ready to refuse to answer your call, go to trial, be convicted, and go to prison for your beliefs?
