Gonzo leaving Baghdad to come to Michigan and the Indians
at a meeting in posh Harbor Springs. Michigan's US Ag Chiara was one of those "displaced" in the recent scandal. She is (was?) a true Repug and from what I can ascertain was deemed OK by tribal politics in the state. Lots of hot issues here between gaming and restoration of hunting/fishing territories/property rights suits from treaty interpretations etc.

Interesting choice for his August vacation schedule.

Story updated: Friday, August 10, 2007 2:22 PM EDT

BBy Kristina Hughes News-Review Staff Writer

HARBOR SPRINGS — U.S. Attorney Alberto Gonzales will meet with leaders from the 12 Michigan federally recognized tribes Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians governmental headquarters in Harbor Springs.

Frank Ettawageshik, the chairman of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, would not comment on the visit or the meeting content.

Kaye Hooker, a media relations spokesperson for the attorney general confirmed that Gonzales will be meeting with the tribal leaders.

“I cannot comment on content. The information has not been released,” Hooker said.

Jeff Cobe, the Odawa chief law enforcement officer said the meetings will be closed followed by a press conference.

1. Tis simple. A tribe wants to place a casino in Allegan County and the DeVos clan is way opposed.
The Scamway group has dumped major money into the republican party and opposition to the casino. Tried everything and the state house has approved it. Senate more of a battle. They have been calling in republican reinforcements for the last month. Sure they'll talk about fishing but the real action, and money, is in the casinos.

2. Thanks for the analysis
Makes it clear -- money money money -- and more money.

But tribal politics can be unpredictable and I relish Gonzo strolling into something about which he does not have a clue -- such as a Judiciary hearing.

sweet loyal Bushie Alice, recess appointed by her Decider and then (despite objections) given the lead role in the Jack Abramoff investigation, among other things
