Watching 60 Minutes? This rapper "Cam'ron" is a low down POS
he says if a serial killer lived next door to him, rather than report him to the police, he'd move!!

I think Hip Hop is destroying today's black youth.

Hip Hop's message to them is not to cooperate with the police during murder investigations.

That's fucking stupid. And cowardly.

2. Look at how many black youths and young men are in prison
Trusting the authorities and cooperating with them makes NO sense from their perspective.

This is what the past thirty years of urban warfare has wrought. Nothing else.

4. Not in that culture, no you wouldn't.
you wouldn't think the way you think now. You'd think like that rapper thinks. You don't cooperate with the Police.

10. I happen to be an African American in THIS culture
so what?

The Nazis were murdering the Jews.

Blacks are murdering one another.

17. And it's one thing to distrust authority, which black youth
in this country have every right to do; it's another thing to get rich off of that re-enforcing fear. That's disgusting.

telling you about the disparity of justice in this country. I myself, a white woman, who grew up as a foster-child in a family of cops, would think twice before calling the police for 'help'. Edited to add...I am making an assumption as to what the the 60-minutes segment is about..but as far as blacks killing blacks...murder and suicide are to me...two sides of the same coin. They are passionate crimes, that require a perfect storm of energy, anger, and means. For myself, the lack of options, and choices had a large affect on my behaviors. The norms outside of my birds eye view was non-existent.

26. I agree with you, but I wonder why people make such
a distinction in the black v. white cultures.

We're all American - at least in this country whether we were born here or are now naturalized. We're all Americans and should find it in our culture to help law enforcement find wrong-doers.

Perhaps that is the flip side as to why so many black men continue to be imprisoned. The distrust runs both ways because there is NO communication between the police and the black community. Just a thought. I may be way off base.

20. Black on black crime is really at a scary level. What happened in W. Palm Beach was horrific.
That apartment complex attracts trouble.

And, like Cabrini Green, etc., most of the residents are just terrorized, decent people trying to get by.

11. It's A Dilemma
I remember when Carmelo Anthony was discovered in a "Don't Snitch" video and he was asked to repudiate the message but couldn't bring himself to...

I suspect it's not as prevelent where the police are part of the community and not "the man"...

15. I've had some recent experiences that make me not trust the police
although overall, I can't imagine agreeing with what he said. Still, if I had grown up in the black community and repeatedly seen injustice, I can imagine looking at things differently.

If martial law were imposed on us now and I were called to testify against another activist...

I believe an answer is Neighborhood Courts. The link provided doesn't address criminal justice issues, but neighborhoods without effective policing and overcrowded courts have taken back their neighborhoods.

24. I Think The More Disgusting Part Of The Interview
is where Anderson Cooper glosses over how the black kids report being victimized by the police for no good reason, which breeds distrust in the authorities. Of course, criminals use that distrust to their advantage, so blacks in those communities are caught between two walls.
