Question for Parents against the Draft! |
|
What wouldn't you do to stop them from getting your son or daughter if there was a draft?
or conversely,
How far would you go to make sure your kid didn't end up dead for a stupid war of choice?

1. I refuse to answer on the grounds it may incriminate me, esp on a public forum. |

Are you for the draft or against it?

I hold to the idea that the Viet Nam war ended the draft, not the other way around. I also hold to the theory that if we can't trust congress to get us the hell out of Iraq now, we can't trust them to craft a draft bill that the rich/powerful could not get out of. I'd rather spend my time, money, energies trying to end the Occupation than trying to end the Occupation AND the draft.

6. But if everyone resisted as much as we would... wouldn't that end it? |
|
Once the draft is in place, I mean.
You see, it would never work because we would not surrender our kids and the lengths that we would go to, including fleeing the country, arming ourselves, etc. would put the lie to this thing!

Bingo! Instituting a draft to "stop the war" is like putting a fire out with gasoline.

As far as I am concerned the social contract would be null and void.

7. Exactly. And that is why, we must do it. The social contract SHOULD |
|
be null and void at this point, but the veil of illusion lies over our eyes -at the expense of the poor people who have been coerced and coopted to fight this "non-war".

at that point my concern for this republic and its citizens would be over. My only concerns would be for the welfare of my family. I would not be out in the streets rioting, I would be gone from this society and out of this system.

is already null and void... Look around, no draft needed to prove that

Then again that is a matter between me and society. You do not get to decide if the social contract is null and void for me.

Any time anyone enlists they should consider the White House occupant. A no brainer there for the war of lies. I found the military to be a big waste of time myself.

I hated the 'Mean Green Fighting Machine' in general, but I worked with some fine people that taught me life lessons that have served me well for decades. My son is learning some of those same lesson directly from me.

ONLY if a draftee has lost a parent who was fighting in the war, they won't be drafted (aside from true medical conditions, and I don't know if I'd trust that either to some degree).

2 boys, 23 and 21, and they are not fighting in this illegal occupation. They know it is illegal. One is a CO but probably would have to go do something else and may still be in harms way. I would not sacrifice a cockroach for this asshole Bush** and his buddies who are living large off the money they are getting by supporting it. Whatever it takes.
Whatever it takes to get them out of it.

But your idea of a mass uprising of parents is far fetched. Didn't happen in Vietnam -- with over 57,000 deaths -- and wouldn't happen now.
Some of us with means would send our kids out of the country. Otherwise . . .
