Unpredictable Mrs Sarkozy snubs Bush picnic

August 13 2007 at 01:13AM

By Emma Charlton

Paris - Cecilia Sarkozy's decision to bow out of a picnic with the president of the United States this weekend is the latest proof of the French first lady's unpredictable, even rebellious take on her new role.

President Nicolas Sarkozy travelled alone to meet George W. Bush and his family at their Atlantic holiday home after Cecilia - staying just an hour away at a US lakeside resort - bowed out due to a throat ailment.

The US leader said he was "disappointed" but understanding after Cecilia called Laura Bush at the last minute to excuse herself, but the change of plan sounded a false note in what was billed as a rare personal get-together.

She was photographed later on Sunday taking a stroll in town with two friends. Nicolas Sarkozy, meanwhile, was seen wearing earphones and jogging on a lakeside path with a seven-strong entourage.

I can hear the wingnuts now over this one:

"The couple's at-times stormy relationship has often been the stuff of gossip tabloids: the couple split for a few months in 2005, each pursuing separate love affairs. There was also widespread speculation about whether Cecilia would join her husband in the Elysee."

2. Gosh, and I thought an invitation from Dumbass and Fatass was like
a royal command you had to obey.

5. I can't imagine having to spend an afternoon
trying to keep "The Laura Person" amused. Borrowing from the movie Tombstone, "My hypocrisy indeed has limit's." Now, knowing that, somewhere in that afternoon, I'd have to call her a brainless shame-based neurotic that's deeply in denial of the death, debt and misery caused by her "lover man".

6. I can't say that I blame her
Let's see...hormone-laced hamburgers, hot dogs made of "beef, pork and chicken by-products," baked beans and two hours listening to the man who demonized her country for the last three years butcher his OWN language. That sounds like the exact meeting I'd want to skip.

10. LOL
I can't see * doing that to Laura Bush in public without somebody wanting to sue for distress.
In France it is life.

And Hotdogs, animal feed and Beans is an insult, to a French President and his wife. I don't blame her for being pissed. Of course it makes a better story for the US Media that she had a fight with her husband then she snubbed the Bush Family because the food was insulting.
Can you image someone giving Inviting Jacques Chirac for lunch and serving him burgers and hot dogs and most likely no wine ? That would be a diplomatic incident.
