1. If you get seriously ill, you will go bankrupt |
|
What will do it?
Copays every time you see a doctor, visit a clinic, need tests, and for every medication. Serious illness requires a lot of doctors and medications.
Uncovered costs: these are items the insurance company computer models dictate weren't needed for your case and can run into thousands of dollars for tests, alone.
Capped insurance. Somewhere in the weasel words of most insurance policies, probably not in the feel good stuff your company gave you but in the real policy issued to your workplace, there lies a lifetime cap. Once you exceed that cap, as in a recurrence of cancer, a need for a second heart surgery within a year, or other complication, you are simply shit out of luck. You are uninsured.
Unemployment. Companies will trump up reasons to fire you because the insurance company is threatening to raise their rates because they had the bad judgment to hire a sick person, you.
I have worked in the insurance industry and I have spent 25 years in the trenches as an RN. I have also been uninsurable for the past 20 years. This is my field.
I have spent most of this time trying to warn people about what they are facing should they get sick. Please heed this warning and do not allow any politician to keep the insurance industry in the health care equation. They don't belong there. They are killing us.
