3700 of his charges dead in Iraq and he's 'patient,' willing to continue into the Spring?

Army Chief Says U.S. Can Sustain Surge in Iraq Until Spring

"The surge was and remains a temporary function," said General Casey. "I think we're on record here as saying the surge can be sustained through the spring without changes to the existing mobilization and deployment policies. And that's where we are. And we're going to wait and see here what happens, what our commanders on the ground recommend in the coming months."

General Casey also said it could take ten years for Iraq to fulfill its potential and become a prosperous, stable country. But he said he has never doubted that that can happen if the U.S. maintains its commitment.

"It will take patience and it will take will, and the terrorists are out to undermine our will, our national will to prosecute this," said General Casey. "As complex, and as difficult, and as confusing as you may find Iraq, we can succeed there. And we will succeed there if we demonstrate patience and will."

General Casey was not asked about the deterioration of the situation in Iraq during the final year of his tour of duty there, during which he repeatedly said he did not need more troops. But he said the current surge strategy is working, and now it is up to the Iraqi leaders to do their part to end the violence.

1. We'll stay there until we get blood from a stone. And all the money in the world
from the U.S. Treasury.

2. "I think we're on record here ". Yeah, that's some razor-edged strategy.
"That's our plan and we're sticking to it. No matter how effed up the facts on the ground are."

My confidence in our military leadership has been totally restored.

This ass should go get a job at Footlocker or something.

3. What "terrorists"?...You mean the "enemy."
The terrorists attacked on 9/11 and their supporters are in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. This general is using the term "terrorist" to label the forces in Iraq that are fighting an occupying army. What's wrong with just calling them the enemy?

6. because they would have had to declared war against us
as a nation to become our enemies. They are our friends that just don't understand what we are trying to accomplish for them. Kinda like that "intervention" tv show. We got to put them in jail so they understand we luv them. If we have to kill them to reinforce our position, well, they just don't get it.

5. could take ten years
Well it's been 5 years and I see that nothing has gotten better (ok the bomb makers have gotten better). Why will another magic 5 years, 1 trillion spent and 4000 American lives make the difference?

8. Because, by then the Iran, Russia, China alliance
will be so strong that the Republicans will be able to point to a REAL enemy, a REAL boogyman, and take back power with a full world war. Of course, there won't be much USA left to take back.

7. Where the hell was "patience and will" in the spring of 2003?
I remember screaming at the TV to Let the inspectors work! Send in another 300, another 3000 inspectors, but for God's sake, Don't go to war, assholes!
