Rumor is they agreed to let him off the hook and not pursue an investigation of him if he resigned. If true, its a terrible deal because he'll just keep running dirty campaigns for the GOP.

as a cooperating witness in exchange for leniency or immunity, that's one thing, but unless he forks over some info, there's no motivation there to letting him walk away. He's not that special, or even very good at what he does (as these last elections proved).
