Man Apparently Left In Wheelchair Outside Orlando Airport For 3 Days
Minister Found In Soiled Clothes Days After Flight

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Kansas minister with medical problems is recovering in a hospital Friday after he was apparently left sitting in a wheelchair on a curb outside of Orlando International Airport for three days.

Kenneth Davis was reported missing this week when family members in Wichita lost contact with him after an AirTran flight to Orlando. Davis was scheduled to attend a Florida gospel conference this week, the family said.

Family members told WKMG-TV that Davis was not feeling well and called for assistance at the airport.

Davis' daughter, Melinda, said her father was then put in a wheelchair and rolled to a curb outside of Orlando International Airport, where he sat from midnight Monday until Wednesday afternoon. Orlando police found Davis sitting in the wheelchair Thursday.

...
The family said Davis suffered a stroke during the days sitting outside the airport.

1. No way.
How could this happen? Thousands of people walked by, and no one thought to ask, "Are you ok?"

Jesus, what our society has become.

13. or even a lost, unattended backpack with somebody's gym clothes but no bomb in it
The airport would be shut down and the bomb squad would be right there, blowing it up.

12. That's actually an important question
Given the security presence at my airport (in Austin, TX) it doesn't make sense that a man can sit outside of an airport without being checked and/or questioned.

6. I don't recognize this country any more.
How is this even possible? Not ONE PERSON stopped to see if this man was all right?

I feel like apologizing to my kids for bringing them into this world. Honestly, I do.

8. How, in the name of what any of us hold sacred
can this happen? How have we gone from a country who cared about our most vulnerable citizens, to a country so wrapped up in corruption, and greed, that we can abandon the least of us?

It seems that "compassionate conservatism", and urging us to accept personal responsibility, have failed. This should not happen in the richest country on earth. Our compassion seems now to be bestowed only on the wealthy, and corporations which receive multi-million dollar subsidies, and tax breaks.

We are no longer the America I was born in 64 years ago, or the America I grew up learning about in my Civics classes. It doesn't exist anymore. We are left with a corrupt and ruthless predator class of neo-conservatives, who will stop at nothing to wring the last cent of money from the rest of us.

I hope the fools who voted for the moron are now happy, that even though they can't afford gas, and their jobs have been shipped overseas, Dubya is a guy they would like to have a beer with.

To you delusional robots who voted for the Chimp in either 2000, or 2004, has destroying our country been worth it?

9. How can this be???
I just can't believe that NOT ONE PERSON would have asked him if he needed help or even to see if he was still alive? Where was security?? THREE DAYS??? WTF?

This is beyond belief.

14. A stroke?
That reminds me of how a former co-worker's mother died. She was a cashier at Fred Meyer's and went there to do some shopping on a day off. She was spotted wandering up and down an aisle for nearly an hour with an empty cart and, though one of her co-workers noticed this odd behavior, she got "caught up" doing something else and didn't get around to checking on her.

About three hours later, she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Too late to do any good, of course.

I felt terrible sympathy for this co-worker, one of the nicest people I've ever known. She was hit by some of the worst possible events one can ever imagine in around a year's time. Her son contracted a serious chronic illness (ulceration of his intestines), her teenage daughter committed suicide, and then her mother died in these circumstances.

15. The man is rolled to the curb in a wheelchair and
just left there like a piece of unclaimed baggage? I wonder how soon after that he suffered the stroke? Must have been pretty quick if he was unable to communicate with passers-by. You'd think in the wee hours the first night somebody would have noticed him. Jeez, even the little regional airports in So. Cal are crawling with TSA goons. I imagine in Orlando there are an army of them - apparently not bright enough to notice a wheelchair bound person sitting alone by a curb all day and night. Unbelievable.

16. Put in a wheelchair and rolled to a curb after complaining of not feeling well?
It's like those hospitals which dump their homeless patients outside of skidrow.

18. the porters at Orlando are very aware of what is going on, this is very hard
Edited on Fri Aug-17-07 05:56 AM by ima_sinnic
to believe. I have flown in and out of Orlando, or dropped off people there, many times. The guys who assist with bags and do sidewalk check-in know exactly what is going on out on the sidewalk. One once found me inside by the ticket counter, where I was quickly saying good-bye to someone, to tell me that my car was about to be towed. When you spend your entire working hours securing a patch of concrete and assisting and directing people there, there is no way you are not going to notice someone in a wheelchair abandoned for hours and days. This story does not make sense to me.

19. a christian nation
What does it tell you about this country when we treat the elderly, the sick, the poor and the disenfranchised like shit. This, and the story about the seventy something year old man who was on chemo working at walmart pushing carts from the parking lot, not to mention the images from Sicko of the elderly being dumped off the streets is like a nightmare. This is America?
