http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1605800 got me to wondering this...
I have thought for a long time that the phrase "the land of the free and the home of the brave" was, well, perhaps becoming a bit ironic, in light of the un-Patriot Act, warrantless domestic surveillance, "free speech zones," and the "whatever it takes to keep us safe" mentality, etc.
So I am curious. Do people still really sing the whole chorus at football & basketball games, and the like? I honestly don't think I could bring myself to sing that phrase right now, simply because of the sheer pain of remembering what it felt like when I believed it was true, and remembering what we have lost in the name of "security."
I'm just wondering if others feel the same way.
