12. Timing is everything ...
Edited on Fri Aug-17-07 09:05 AM by Drifter
I just sold off most of my current Retirement investments on Tuesday, and purchased Mutual Funds on Thursday.
Looks like I might have had most of my money out of the market for most of the drop this week.

Cheers

13. Suppose your money was in XYZ corp stock when the market went down.
Edited on Fri Aug-17-07 10:02 AM by Sapere aude
And before you could sell it lost $5.00 per share so you lost $50,000 on paper, since you held 10,000 shares.

Now that the market is going up XYZ corp is up $1.00. But you sold your shares for $10,000. Where do you get the $40,000 to make your self whole again?

I'm thinking about the people who say they want their social security in stocks and not with the government so they can earn more on the money. If they loose money how do they get it back? They say there is no risk if they stay in for the long term but that doesn't make sense to me if they own a stock that loses value.

14. That can't be sustained. As soon as it sinks in that the conditions have to be worse than thought
... for the Fed to weigh in for a FULL half percent on the discount rate (but not YET the funds rate), the fundamentalists will sharpen their bear claws.
