Why isn't LIMBOsevic's "magic Negro" & "Breck Girl" crap outrageous to us?!1

Yeah, he's always done it and always got away with it. sL-IMUS got temporarily patted-out, but LIMBOsevic does it every day.

What set me off today was the car radio on an errand, since I don't monitor closely anymore. There he was with his "Breck girl" crap.

I started monitoring him from the first day he went national. My local talk station, which was on at work all the time, dropped the previous nondescript shows (Joy BROWNE? and the California psychiatrist David VISCOTT) to make room for him. This was when wingnutism was totally irreputable, when the John Birch Society was what you first thought of as "Conservatism," when the Nuts were not camoflaged.

That was in 1980-something. I remember the SHOCK of the music, first of all. It was UNHEARD of that wingnuts would associate with HOT music. (The group whose theme song belongs to - The Pretenders? - say they're not wingnuts, but their parents listen to him.) The next thing he did was to SPELL his surname daily for the first several weeks, for recognition building. The next thing he did was to build a "mainstream" image- banning all callers from the "fringe BIRCH tri-lateral tinfoil - black helicopter" variety. Still, it took at least five years or more before the national media to notice him, and the very first to do so was TimMAY G.E. RUSSERT, who started hosting him for hour long interviews to be played and replayed over the long Thanksgiving weekends for several years. This was formerly bleeding heart Lib TimMAY "reaching out" to the people LIMBOsevic represented, the silent, "decent" mid-America.

LIMBOsevic has done far more dastardly things, but for some reason his recent crap gets to me more and more. Now, here on DU there is no dearth of teaching threads, some getting into the outer edges of p.c.-ism, but we are constantly reminded how rape jokes are about brutal power not sex, how calling somebody we don't like Gay is saying that Gay is bad, that porn demeans women, etc.

So it's clear that LIMBOsevic is gleefully (at that!1), is guilty on ALL of the counts listed, that he is being gender-robbing, power-abusing, and just plain despicable.

Please, no "he's a COMEDIAN" or "lighten up" crap. I don't feel like lightening up.

1. The true believers and lost souls who actually believe that crap and won't be persuaded otherwise if reality fell on the whole lot of them like a ton of bricks; and
2. The morbidly curious, like you, who tune into this creep for the shock value.

So, some listeners can't be outraged by anything he says and others are already sufficiently outraged. The rest of us don't give the creep the attention he craves.

8. Do yourself a favor

Eliminate the stress generated by listening to the bloviating nutcase. Write a letter to each of his sponsors, and the local station that carries his tripe why you are boycottting all products advertised by them. Ask them why racism, sexism, and homophobia are part of their programming. Give specific examples of you taking your money to those businesses that don't advertise and support hate radio.

And turn the station. Permanently. Don't ever go back. If you listen, even to be outraged, he wins, intolerance wins, hate wins.

And, can't you see that this is the noise made by a true believer of a dying cause? More insane ramblings, more shrillness, increasing flights of fantasy as the world changes and leaves the dinosaur behind.

I monitor SOME wingnuts (not all, can't even STAND Hannity, Oliver NORTH, GIBSON, Faux & Friends) for opposition research, to repeat.

They are dangerous and we need to KNOW what they're up to. You don't want to know? Fine. Just don't assume this is the first time I've been told to "just turn them off."

French writer Romain ROLLARD had a short story about the rise of Naziism, and how a wonderfully civilized professor could not stand to see what was going on and locked himself up with his art on the walls and his books and his music, while the darkness closed in around him.

Frankly, I don't like to be told what I already know. It's pretty boring to listen to other yakkers I agree with and all there is is an echo chamber. I imagine that listening only to people one agrees with would put one to sleep, wouldn't it? The blood needs pumping.

all over the web; so I don't have to listen to any of them to get info.
