Travis T Hipp busted on guns, drugs charges (sheesh)
RENO, Nev. — A 70-year-old Nevada radio commentator who goes by the on-air name Travus T. Hipp and describes himself as the “poor hippie’s Paul Harvey” was arrested Thursday on weapon and drug charges.

Hipp’s real name is Chandler A. Laughlin. He’s known for his libertarian views and often criticizes government in his syndicated commentaries that run mostly in California. His broadcasts are aired locally on Freedom-based KPIG radio.

If you've never listened to Travis T. Hipp, you've missed out. I don't always agree with him, but he's always insightful and interesting. And usually disgusted with our government.

70 years old. They found 4 oz. of pot and an ancient gun.

1. Here's Travus
Found it in the Pig Squeals at www.kpig.com

I loves me some Travus T. Many's the time he's elicited guffaws with his commentary on the insanity of it all.

OINK for Travus T. Hipp! :hippie:

Cough. :sarcasm: Cough.

Oh, and are we talking about the big-L Libertarian Party? Or small-l libertarianism?

You ARE aware that there's a difference, right?

Ever take the political compass test?

http://politicalcompass.org

A lot of people here, myself included, identify as socially or left-"libertarian" (eeeeek! That WORD again!)

And got any opinion on our tax dollars being used to keep senior citizens from getting high? Or did your shit just go haywire at the word "libertarian"?

6. I'm a "small l" libertarian of the socialist persuasion.
The only thing with libertarianism in general is where people stand on socialism vs. capitalism vs. something in between the two poles. Aside from that, I dunno beyond what the article says about his views except our mutual disgust with the government and the legalization of pot.

7. I know. That "libertarians are republicans who smoke pot yuk yuk" line is getting awfully old.
Not to overreact, or anything.. but I challenge someone to find ANY thread here that contains the word "libertarian" where someone doesn't trot that thing out. It's like "There are no atheists in foxholes". :eyes: Give it a fucking REST, already.

8. The sad truth is the word has been hijacked by right wing libertarians.
In every other country I've seen, libertarian as a word generally has a left wing connotation to it, such as the Zapatistas in Mexico or the Spanish Anarchist Communes during the Spanish Civil War or the Mutualists during the May-June uprisings of 1968 across France. Only in the US has the word been appropriated by the media to automatically mean something right wing even though the case histories strongly identify it as a left libertarian tendency.

The only people I've seen who contest the right-libertarian definition are old guard lib socialists from the 1950s and earlier who are still alive and younger lib socialists and various liberals and syndicalists. Everybody else either hates the "old" definition because they're right wing or have no opinion because they're moderate and have no conviction either way on it.

run their own lives and control their own bodies. It would be nice, then maybe we wouldn't need additional terms.

The thing that I don't get is, the Republican Party has taken the WORST aspects of the big-L Libertarian Party's economic agenda-- I mean, good government regulation- product safety, worker's rights, environmental protection-- are nonexistent. Like, the FDA doesn't give a shit if formaldehyde-laden toothpaste from China is killing people, although if unmarried women started using it for birth control I suppose they might be rousted to take it off the shelves. So in terms of Grover Norquist "drowning government in the bathtub", the crazy economic libertarians have already WON- but they're called Republicans.

Pretty much all that's left of government after decades of GOP control is a bloated Military-Industrial Complex, the racket known as the Drug War, and crony corporate no-bid giveaways. But the Republicans have married whackjob economics of the far right-libertarians to fucked up Theocratic Fascism, giving us the worst of ALL worlds. So when folks argue that even the "big-L Libertarians" are somehow worse-- the worst part of their agenda has already been adopted by the GOP, And the GOP is crazy with war, torture, science denial and church lady puritanism to boot--- I guess I don't get it.
