If Dean hits the Texas Lower Rio Grande Valley, don't expect the feds to do jack-squat to help |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-18-07 08:59 AM by Gman
The lower Rio Grande Valley (Brownsville, et al) is heavily Democratic just like New Orleans. The RGV went heavily for Kerry in 04. The RGV is strongly opposed and united against building the wall along the river. The RGV is very heavily Hispanic with a very large population of illegal aliens intermingled in the population. The RGV is the poorest area of the country. A great many people in the RGV rely heavily on government services. Therefore, expect a repeat of the events of Katrina in the RGV if Dean strikes the lower RGV. Do not expect FEMA to be on the spot. Do not expect any federal aid anytime soon after Dean hits.
I remain convinced the events surrounding Katrina were no accident because NOLA is heavily African-American and heavily Democrat. New Orleans was "punished" by the federal government for opposing Bush. I fully expect the same punishment to be imposed in the lower RGV for the same reasons should Dean hit.
Even the state response initially will likely be very little beyond some National Guard troops. However, this could even be a situation where idiot governor Perry will cede control of Texas National Guard troops over to the federal government. You will remember Louisiana governor, a Democrat, rightly refused during Katrina to turn LA guard troops over to the federal government.
Don't believe me? Bookmark this post and come back a week from today and reread it. By then things will be in complete chaos in the RGV because this hurricane is officially a monster and the federal government won't do jack-squat to help the RGV until it absolutely has to. Even then it will be too little and too late.
Hopefully, the RGV will be spared. If it Dean hits Brownsville, watch how this is going to unfold.

If they see it as a money making opportunity, then things could be different. Maybe if they will put a toll road in the Valley which Perry seems intent on shoving up everyone's butt.

3. One of my nieghbors is a member of the state disaster team |

and we border Texas. She sat on I-10 for five days after Katrina, while the NG sealed the city against supplies and rescue attempts, treating it like some sort of Homeland Security contagion fantasy instead of a natural disaster where neglect was killing people.
I sincerely hope they stay the fuck out of it this time. Maybe supplies and help will get through if they do.

15. The NG seldom spontaneously organize and act. |

Whose orders were they following, and did they do as instructed?
Because there are only really 3 options here: It doesn't matter whose orders they were following because they messed them up beyond all recognition; they were following *'s orders, or those of his subordinates; they were following Blanco's orders, or those of her subordinates.
Each option suggests a possible solution.
In the case of the first option, the NG is to blame. Keep it away if it can't be reformed, it's the problem. In which case we should spare the sensibilities of the men and women on the ground trying to do what's right and blame the folk truly responsible. This is your assumption, I think, and it seems the least likely of the three.
In the case of the second option, * and his folk were the problem. In the case of the third, Blanco and her folk were the problem. In either case, one desired solution would be to dispose of the person or persons giving the bad orders and have somebody there that would make the NG the instrument for good that the members want to be.

19. FEMA was placed under DHS supervision |
|
and Chertoff's guys rewrote the disaster manuals to reflect terrorist attacks with bio agents.
Apparently everybody was just following the new FEMA guideline for a few days, treating a hurricane as though its victims were contagious.
All the brass knew was that the disaster plan was being carried out. It took media coverage to tell them that maybe, just maybe, the disaster plan itself had been fucked up by a bunch of paranoids and they had to do something, after all.

20. Blanco and her folks were NOT! the problem |
|
if Bush would have backed off pressuring her to put the NG under the feds, things could have gone a lot smoother. Bush wasted a ton of critically precious time trying to circumvent Possse Comitatus. To suggest otherwise is RW BS that are meant to discredit any Democrat associated with Katrina efforts and divert away from the real problem, Bush, FEMA and their response.

If you're a dem in a red state, well, you're crap. Elect a dem mayor, well, it doesn't matter because you're not one of the super-double special elect that form a majority.
In other words, the poster was essentially saying, "Die, dems, die."
To be honest, in my life I've known many a conservative, and few of them had that attitude. Freepers though they were.
Ipse dixit.
