'Daily Show' to Air Reports From Iraq
<snip>

NEW YORK — "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," whose phony news coverage has long included phony "remotes" from war-torn Iraq, will be reporting from Iraq for real next week.

Giving its green screen a temporary rest, the Comedy Central series will air "Operation Silent Thunder: `The Daily Show' in Iraq," several onsite dispatches filed by Senior War Correspondent Rob Riggle.

Riggle will provide what the network calls "in-depth coverage and insights from the front lines." Scheduled to be back in New York this weekend, he begins his reports as soon as Monday. ("The Daily Show" airs Monday through Thursday at 11 p.m. EDT.)

While in Iraq, Riggle performed for U.S. troops with fellow comedians Horatio Sanz, Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer as part of an entertainment tour titled "Operation Feel the Heat."

Besides "The Daily Show," Riggle's credits include "Saturday Night Live," "The Office" and "Arrested Development." A major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, he served in Liberia, Kosovo and Afghanistan.

3. Hey Pip !!!
:hi:

I wonder how they are gonna "play it".

Can't ignore the reality, yet it IS a comedy show.

Gonna be threadin a needle here.

12. A few months ago
Riggle did a spot on TDS where he described perfectly what had to happen in Iraq for it to look like victory. It was dead on accurate and funny at the same time. I was hoping it had been posted on YouTube and did a search but alas it was not there.

Riggle is the perfect person for this gig. He's in the military, has actually served so he knows what he's talking about. He's also a very gifted comic.

There is a Mark Twain quote that comes to mind and I'm paraphrasing here: Out of the greatest tradegies comes the greatest comedy. I expect that will be what he will draw on.

4. We'll get more real news in 10 minutes than CNN provides all week
"The Daily Show" just shows how far real journalism has fallen. TDS doesn't have the budget or the staff to supposedly do "real" news, yet they manage to do it.

The show needs to be expanded to one hour and aired without any censorship. I'd gladly pay extra to watch it uncut.

I've always wondered how Al Franken managed to get in and out of there in one piece. Now the Daily Show is going? I doubt he's going to get a 24-hour harraunge about how he's undermining the troops?

17. They mentioned his former occupation and rank on his debut appearance
I recall the phrase used was "he knows 3 ways to kill you with just his little finger" or something close to that.
But I haven't heard them mention his military background since then, except for maybe once and then in passing.

... with an image of the Daily Show's NY studio on it. The irony would be mind-blowing.
