If given the Choice.........
would you:

1) Want a world without weapons of warfare...guns, bombs, missles, knives etc?

or

2) A world without organized religion?

You can ONLY choose one. Your genie in the bottle is being stingy today.

1. Get rid of the dogma and you can keep the religions around
If the words maybe and perhaps were more often present in statements of belief religion (and various political systems) would be far more peaceful.

Getting rid of the weapons would just limit the amount of damage an individual can do. Get rid of the dogmas of the world and you will do a lot more good towards achieving peace. People can still beat a person to death without a weapon. During the Iraq/Iran wars the Iranians would swarm the Iraqis with unarmed combatants who would try to beat them to death by shear numbers.

9. All dogma
That includes ideological dogma as well--such as the capitalistic and communistic dogma.

12. Doubt to me is far more valuable than faith
Faith leads to differences. Doubt leads to understanding.

14. But ideologs don't like doubt either
Ask anyone who has studied the workings of the Khmer Rouge or the Maoists during the Cultural Revolution.

15. I include them
Dogma is not exclusive to religion. And religion is not defined by dogma.

2. A world without organized - or unorganized - religion
Fuck a bunch of god-freaks. They would do as well to believe in the tooth faerie.

3. I choose option 2
without organized religion, we probably wouldn't have much need for option number 1.

11. The Khmer people may disagree with you
the Killing Fields took place in Cambodia based upon communist dogma, not anything dealing with religion. I agree with Az, get rid of dogma of all kinds-including ideological dogma.

4. A world without organized religion
Get rid of the myths of imaginary sky-people and put down the bibles, catechisms, korans, torahs, etc. and read about reality, and the warfare, etc. will take care of diminishing itself.

5. I wouldn't get rid of either. Neither weapons nor religion are the problem, people are.
Edited on Sat Aug-18-07 02:48 PM by porphyrian
And I wouldn't get rid of people, because I am one. You can put a bunch of Buddhist monks in a room full of weapons and nothing bad will likely come of it. However, give a sociopath, who's determined to kill, a spork and you have a bloodbath. Don't confuse the tools with those who use them for ill.

Edit: commas for clarity

7. Organized religion will always find ways and means to kill.
Getting rid of organized religion will reduce the need for the armies.

8. A world without weapons
I would hope the Jinn would work from the Jinn plane (which emphasizes the mental) to help us actually live by the tenets of the various religions.

16. A world without religion. Ah, I can only wish...
Get rid of weapons and people will still kill each other with their bare hands, so it's kinda futile.

17. In disagreements over dogma, absent the weapons of war
everyday tools and even things just found like rocks will turn into weapons.

The only way to end war is to end the reason for it. Religion supplies a great deal of the reason war is sold to a population. If god wants a war, who are mere mortals to deny it?

18. The world without weapons definitely...
Religion mainly becomes bad when it's enforced at gunpoint.
