Huckabee Says Clinton Should Get Apology if Republicans Don't Take Character Issues Seriously
LITTLE ROCK — Former President Bill Clinton could be owed an apology by some Republicans if they don't take character issues in candidates' personal lives seriously in the upcoming presidential election, former Gov. Mike Huckabee says.

Without naming names, the GOP presidential hopeful complained that some in his party — particularly Christian evangelicals — "talk as if, in this election cycle, Republican candidates aren't going to be held to a standard of personal accountability and responsibility for their personal lives."

"If that's true, there are going to be a lot of Republicans who will owe Bill Clinton a great big public apology," Huckabee said. "We can't have a set of rules that we apply to Democrats that we don't apply to ourselves.

"If we apply a different set of rules, then we have exposed one of the greatest levels of hypocrisy in the last generation of politics." Huckabee said.

Huckabee, a Southern Baptist minister who left office in January, shares the hometown of Hope with the former president, who also served as Arkansas' governor. Huckabee supports "covenant marriages" in which divorces are more difficult to obtain.

GOP rivals Rudy Giuliani and Sen. John McCain have each been divorced. Huckabee and Clinton have not. Clinton's wife, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination.

1. Huckabee
just lost any chance of winning the primary. No way in hell would anyone in the base of the Repug Party apologize to the Clintons. Ever.

As far as most of them are concerned they are still responsible for every bad thing that has ever happened or will happen.

2. More good politics from Hucky
He's going after Giuliani and his own party at the same time. That will put him in better shape in the GE if he somehow gets there since he can reasonably say he isn't a traditionally divisive Republican. Also, by raising the character issue as it relates to the HillBilly, he reminds people that the Clintons were a nonstop soap opera without sounding like a moralizing boor.

The Pubbies should look carefully at this guy; then again, "Huckaby" and "President" could be a hard sell.

I live in the epicenter of neocon republicans,i am a hairdresser to a lot of them, they hate Hillary to the max,But they hate abortion the most.Iwould like to think that Hucky has a good chance in SC.As for me i like to prepare them for Jan.20 09.Imagine Bill holding the Bible while Hillary gets sworn in as the President. That my friends is the ultimate victory. Remember these two are not the ametures of 1992. The whole world loves them .

15. Welcome to DU asha
Do you ever get the urge to do something less than nice to some of the Repubs whose hair you work on?

I had a guy I worked with a long time ago whose wife was a hairdresser and he told me of roaches living in some beehive hairdos. Was he putting me on?

4. Uh - Oh!
Huckabee just broke a cardinal rule of the GOP.
RWers are not to be blamed nor is their hypocrisy to be pointed out.
His comments totally undermine their inherent superiority and sense of entitlement.
Bye bye Huckabee
