I think Katie Couric does a great job on the CBS evening news

Of the 3 big Network News Programs, hers is the ONLY one I will watch now.
NBC's news is a Republican hack job.
ABC's is just off in tone- and it also leans heavily to the right.
CBS reports REAL stories that are harsher on the Bush admin.
And the CBS field reporters are great.

Everyone that hates Katie Couric here amuses me.
She's doing what you SAY you want reporters to do:
be fair and balanced.
Why is she so hated? What thing did she do years ago that makes you so quick to hate her?

It's sad that when there finally IS a news program that is more dem friendly, it's the Dems who trash it.

Fair and Balanced? What on earth? There are so many things factually incorrect that i wont even start. Her first "guest columnist" was Rush Limbaugh (of all people!) the entire country to choose from. There is a saying in Filmaking in your intial outing (writing or directing) go with what you know, so Rush was what she knows and it hasnt gotten any better. Oh my god, this might be the most ridiculous Post ive ever read in either Stint on here, It tops or is pretty close to the one that said "stealing music from artists you like on Napster was fine"

I am a former journalist (gave up the profession because it's not conducive to proper child rearing) and I'd give anything for our news to be fair and balanced - and NOT the Faux News version of that.

I don't like it when people call Keith Olbermann a liberal. He's not, really. He's actually fair and balanced and has called a number of Dems to the carpet, and should.

Look, news should be about presenting all points of view, clearly indicating when you're going off on an editorial tangent and protecting the people and the Constitution.

I was a journalist during my child rearing years because I felt it was so conducive to raising kids. I did a lot of writing while they napped, or after bedtime. The rest of the time, they had me 100%. It worked out perfectly for me. Deadlines were met, diapers were changed, nursing remained on schedule, beats were not missed.

I stand by what I said. News cannot be "fair and balanced". News should be the truth. Period. Editorializing, commentary, etc., is NOT news, though it is often confused with the same. News can be presented sans editorializing, commentary, etc., and should be. It's not hard at all to present only the facts.

As far as Couric, I've never seen it. I swore off all TV right after that thing that happened on 11/02/04, that I've never been able to call an election and probably never will. I will say that I was terribly disconcerted to hear that she picked Rush Limbaugh as her special guest on her very first show. Bad Precedent there.
