In Germany, during the rise of Adolph Hitler, the thugs organized to surround and remove protestors who disagreed with the racist, warmongering rhetoric of the rising dictator were called Brown Shirts. In the United States - now - during the administration of our Neo-fascist president, George W. Bush, the thugs are called Rally Squads.

As reported in today's Washington Post, "A White House manual that came to light recently gives presidential advance staffers extensive instructions in the art of 'deterring potential protestors' from President Bush's public appearances around the country.

"Among other things, any event must be open only to those with tickets tightly controlled by organizers. Those entering must be screened in case they are hiding secret signs. Any anti-Bush demonstrators who manage to get in anyway should be shouted down by 'rally squads' stationed in strategic locations. And if that does not work, they should be thrown out."

"Thrown out." Think about that for a moment. Exercising a critical First Amendment right is such a threat to this sickeningly fearful and sneaky man, George W. Bush, that equally fearful citizens of the US are ordered to stop others from participating in an essential and patriotic act: non-violent defiance of Bush's ongoing corruption and destruction of the US Constitution.

This is where Bush and his thugs - those in his government and those who willingly volunteer from the ranks of delusional "Christians" and local Republican organizations - have taken this country: To a divisive, shrill, cowardice that was unknown in our history until the rise of the Bush Crime Family. The question remains: When will the American people say "enough" and remove Bush - legally and peacefully - from office? When?

Remember how I said I was working on my book to send in to a potential employer-it's a cattle call really. No worries there, you take your chances. Latterly, Dark Horse Comics (local to me, I'm in Portland, they're in Milwaukie (Portland OR suburb)) announced an opening for Junior Graphic Designer, and wanted a cover letter, resume, and samples in by 24 August. Got it completed this am, overnighting it (hell, they're across town, but I want to IMPRESS!) to them-it'll be there by noon tomorrow.

The book isn't a book but a mini-website I designed in Dreamweaver CS3 that I can burn onto a CD-Rom. If y'all want a look at the CD itself, I've posted a piccy of it at this blog posting:

and that's what they're getting. Not finding much work over the past year or so has really made me slide on my portfolio upkeep, but this little "portable website" was so much fun to do and I'm so happy with it that I feel re-energized about it all.

I've got to be honest about my chances here; most likely, there will be some comic book supergeek who's been angling for Dark Horse before he was born. Hopefully I'll impress them enough with my get-up-and-gumption that I can at least score an interview-and that would be sweet, and more than I'd hoped for.

It's been long hours the last few days; I'm not listening to Mike because I'm nowhere near my computer (I'm listening to Icehouse on muy iPod, just about as good) and I will probably not be checking back tonight.

I've been in tears off and on all day today, I've been out calling and looking, but still no Nosy. :cry: The much younger cat is searching for him, too. I'm in a really awful mood, and I don't want it to be infectious on the thread...but I can't believe this is happening and I'm missing the 'big boy'.

The 14 yr. old told me today, "give him a couple of more days, Mom", but it's the not knowing where he is and the fact that I don't know what's happened that has had my stomach in knots! Yeah, I kept waiting for him to walk up today - yeah I even have a cat carrier ready outside - to get him to either the vet's office or the emergency animal clinic, in case he needs treatment.

I just want him to show up! :hi: and a :hug: back at ya!

168. It's so scary.

We thought we lost Cosmo once and I was a basket case. You should have seen me walking around the neighborhood in bedroom slippers, calling his name, and shaking a can of Pounce. I thought he got out when we had a matress delivered, it turned out that he just got spooked and hid under the stove and was so far back we couldn't see him.

Does Nosy wear a collar and/or have a microchip?

189. Nosy was a master at getting out of collars, and I swear he taught

the younger one how to get out of them, too. The vet was adamant about breakaway collars, and Nosy would have his on for maybe 15 mins. which is why I never put their rabies tags on collars, but kept them in a drawer. No, he doesn't have a microchip, but the vet does treat cows and horses, so in retrospect I could've tagged his ear. :rofl:, as he would've figured out a way to ditch that, too.

I'm not trying to be snarky, as when we first moved into our house, after the dog we owned at the time got blasted by a skunk, she was freaking out at 3 windows overlooking the backyard. There were cows in the back yard, in had been raining and we had just sowed the yard. Anyway to make a long story short, we tracked the cows to the owner by the tags in their ears, but I swear that Nosy would've found a way to get rid of even an ear tag.

today, and I thought about calling the shelter, but I was hoping that I would find him either on foot or in the car. I'll call the local shelter tomorrow. He's not the type that would go up to a stranger, unless the stranger came to our house - he usually gets out of the way even if he was in our front yard and a stranger was walking on the street.

I just want him to come home! :hi: :hug:

177. I truly feel for you, tnlefty.

All our cats are indoor kitties. A long time ago I was broiling a steak for Mr. catnapper at, like, 2am, (we worked shifts) and the smoke detector went off. We opened the front door to vent the house and our most recent addition, a 6-pound Persian adoptee, ran out. We live out in the boonies, next to a watershed, and we did the usual posts on mailboxes and ran around shaking food bags. After two weeks, we got a phone call one night saying they thought they saw our kitty about a half-mile from our house and across a creek. It was her!

So don't give up hope...:hug:

Thanks for that, as this isn't his habitual behavior, and I'm worried sick. When we went to the NC beaches a couple of years ago, and the neighbors were looking out for both of them...

We were calling them, and the younger one showed up right away. He came running from the woods and when he realized that we were standing on the deck and could see him, he slowed down, and took on that 'I don't want you to know that I'm glad to see you all, or that you're home' attitude. We laughed because it was so like him, but being gone this long isn't like him at all.

I've already called some neighbors, but will try to post him on mailboxes and call the shelters tomorrow. He's always been a wanderer, so I keep thinking if he could get home he would. I guess I'm freaking out thinking that he's been injured and can't and with the heat we're having here...just makes me shudder. :hi: :hug:
