Religious right big shots heading for Tampa in September...read their hate agenda.
This is just totally sickening to me. Among them will be Tony Perkins, Gary Bauer, Don Wildmon, Richard Land, Katherine Harris, and Bob Knight. Nancy Heche (Anne's mother...sounds like it), Ken Blackwell, and others. Wildmon is the one who started the rumor that Howard Dean was stealing Easter from the Christians.

Howard Dean accused of 'redefining' meaning of Easter

More about this conference which will spread an agenda of hate and scapegoating.

The Right Set to Converge On Florida in September

On September 20-22, a who’s who of the Right will be in Tampa for the Family Impact Summit. Featuring the likes of Tony Perkins, Gary Bauer, Don Wildmon, Richard Land, Katherine Harris, and Bob Knight, the conference will offer a wide array of panels on everything from the “Homosexual Agenda,” “Homosexuality & Youth,” and “Homosexuality & Ministry” to workshops on “New and relevant research on homosexuality.”

In between the gay-bashing, there will also be panels on “Christian Citizenship” and “Community Decency,” as well as keynote addresses from Bauer, Perkins, Ken Blackwell, and Harry Jackson.

What you won’t find at this summit, as of yet, is GOP presidential candidates – even though most of them are reportedly scheduled to be attending the “Values Voter Debate” in Fort Lauderdale on September 17, which is being hosted by a separate, but not mutually exclusive, group of influential right-wing leaders.

The debate is being sponsored by the people who brought us the “Values Voters’ Contract With Congress,” which was itself launched at Vision America’s “War on Christian and Values Voters Conference” in 2006 and supported by right-wing stalwarts such as Phyllis Schlafly, Alan Keyes, Lou Sheldon, Janet Folger, D. James Kennedy, Rod Parsley, and others.

You really need to read the schedule and the agenda. They tackle so many evils.

Family Impact Summit

They don't give up on their agenda of discrimation.

9. There's a local hate... I mean talk... radio show like that here.
Every single time I tune into it to see what the hatemongers are saying, the man on the show is talking about homosexuality. EVER. SINGLE. TIME.

He does the show with his wife, but I'm beginning to think she's a beard.

27. Been thinking...
(be very afraid...)
WHY is homosexuality such a big deal?
Gonna throw a few things out here. NONE of them are scientifically proven.

Most of the people who scream the loudest against homosexuality are male...at least, from what I've seen here and in my own observation. They also seem to be the most upset by the M/M combination...F/F doesn't get near as much airtime. In fact, there seems to be a dark, unconfessed fascination with F/F sex.

I think (and again, this is JMHO), what truly bothers them so much, isn't a religious taboo or anything moral, but something more visceral. They are FIXATED (and we see this, don't we?) on the sheer physical mechanics involved in M/M sex. The very idea that their inviolate manly bodies might be subject to BEING INVADED is enough to give them the screaming meemies.

Women don't have quite the same problem with this 'invasion' because this is a concept that we deal with from the cradle. We're female, so intimacy (read: sex) is going to involve some degree of physical invasion...and I won't even go into the procreative aspect here.

Just a thought...(dons flame-retardant suit)

32. I know plenty of female homophobes
who are threatened by lesbians. Their fear is that roving gangs of "dykes" are going to try to force them to become manly or,... something. I don't know. It really does seem to be a psychological problem tied to gender roles. The men can't seem to wrap their minds around the idea of another guy ever being a bottom, and most of the female homophobes similarly can't grasp that a woman could ever be the butch. To them the man is always the top and dominant, the female always the bottom, submissive, and homosexuality just blows their minds.

You can notice this with a lot of the rhetoric that goes around. Homophobic men rarely have much to say about homosexual men who are the more masculine in their relationships - the homophobe always talks about "getting stuck" rather than doing the sticking. It's not so much a worry of having their bodies invaded as it is being perceived as "woman". Interestingly, a lot of these guys aren't misogynists - many are, no doubt, but not all. They just use their penis and testicles as one of the defining aspects of their identity, and the idea of being perceived in any way as being "less of a man" terrifies them due to the perceived loss of that identity.

Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 04:01 PM by PurpleChez
at the idea of male homosexuality has to do with some primal aversion to contact with the male fluids involved. I don't buy that...reminds me too much of Dr. Stranglove. But it is weird. I've always considered myself to be straight-but-not-narrow, and I have always been vexed by friends who had no other bigotry except for their horror over male homosexuality. It's not even hate...there's never any plans to beat anybody up or anything...it's more fear and horror. I remember some years back when Pete Townsend made some comments that were interpreted as possibly alluding to his own gaiety...some of these guys were suddenly sorry that they'd gone to see the Who play that summer. Weird.

It would be interesting to hear what that workshop discusses. Maybe it's just the cynic in me, but I highly doubt maintaining the separation of church and state will be tops on the agenda.

About Wildmon's accusation that Howard Dean was stealing Easter from the Christians:
That made me laugh. Dean simply made a passing reference to "people of all faiths" - it's not as if he tried to diminish the importance of the day by incorporating non-religious symbols, such as bunnies and eggs, into the celebration. ;)

Here is a video of him saying:

What I am hearing from them is that we are losing our cultural identity. Instead of being the traditional melting pot, we are becoming factions," he said. "Now all of these things are not necessarily government's responsibility, but there is a growing concern that there is no assimilation anymore as there has been throughout our history.

Wonder if that is the reconciliation they are talking about?

I was floored by the number of Christian fundamentalists around here. I'm from a very small town in Kansas. I thought people would be more "liberal" in a city as big as Tampa. My little town in Kansas is MUCH more moderate, religiously speaking, than this place. Is it because it's the "south"?

39. Easter is NOT a holy day ...in fact it comes from a pagan belief.
I dare you to actually investigate the origins of easter. These people never read up on what they claim to believe in! Constantine exchanged the word passover for easter and also instigated the mixing of the 2 days into one so that he could gain more control through religion over the pagans: a compromise of the truth. Not only that but passover is not commanded to be observed by the gentile converts in the new testament.

Here's some sign ideas that came to mind in seconds...

Are there 3 Forums on gay issues because Republicans are stained with sex criminals?

we've got them in one building - send in the psychiatrists!

Reverend Ted Haggard couldn't be here today... he's drugged up with a male prostitute
Mark Foley couldn't be here today... BOYS ya know... shhh!
Mark Foley and the forum on 'Seducing Boys via the Internet' has been cancelled
Senator Tom Vitter & his diaper are a no show, seems his hooker & he are busy!

3 forums against gay rights & 0 on church dealings with family poverty issues?

No NAMBLA convention this weekend for you to attend or is that what this really is?

NO ENABLERS OF SEX PERVERTS IN OUR BACK YARD! GO AWAY PERVERT ENABLERS!

"Protecting Children from Internet Predators" - who's running that one, Mark Foley???

You are unwelcome because you don't focus on solving problems - you just cause them or assign blame

Katherine Harris is here? I thought she was incinerated after her election trouncing to Nelson?

HARRIS - PROOF THAT PEOPLE CAN GO BATSHIT CRAZY!

I ATTENDED THE FAMILY IMPACT SUMMIT & ALL I GOT WAS AN STD FROM KATHERINE HARRIS

hear the religious Reich whining about the “Homosexual Agenda”. I have NEVER seen a TV commercial or Radio ad espousing the benefits of being gay, I have never had a gay person knock on my door and offer gay literature or to discuss gay issues. What I have had, is a lot of what I like to call, Holy Roller Hypocrites, knock on the door, (Jehovah's and Southern Baptists) wanting to hand out literature or discuss religion or offer an invite to their church.
