Bill Scher: McConnell Swings and Misses
From OurFuture.org:

McConnell Swings and Misses
Submitted by Bill Scher on August 22, 2007 - 3:35pm.

Yesterday, Campaign for America's Future joined Americans United for Change and Americans Against Escalation in Iraq to release a new report on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and his record of obstruction.

McConnell's staff responded not by proudly acknowledging his obstruction strategy (as his right-hand man Sen. Trent Lott did), but by attacking the messenger -- sending to the media a hit piece on Campaign for America's Future.

Sadly, for them, the hit piece was laughably bad ("In 2004, Howard Dean And Michael Moore Headlined Campaign For America’s “Take Back America” Sessions." Horrors!), and it didn't stop the state's major newspaper from reporting the news:

Three groups launched fresh attacks yesterday on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell over his support of the Iraq war and other issues.

...

"The problem with the (filibuster) strategy is that it is blocking reforms that are common-sense and overwhelmingly popular," said Robert Borosage, co-director of Campaign for America's Future.

He added that the strategy threatens legislation aimed at lowering the cost of prescription drugs for seniors, giving troops appropriate rest between tours in Iraq, and reducing subsidies for oil and gas companies.

McConnell's chief of staff, Billy Piper said ... that McConnell has worked with Republicans and Democrats to shape good legislation.

Apparently, he couldn't name any "good legislation" he worked across the aisle to shape.

Next, McConnell has to face his constituents, who are organizing major rallies across Kentucky next Monday and Tuesday, calling on him to stop obstructing redeployment out of Iraq.

3. Didn't republicans VOTE AGAINST the bills they mentioned
and didn't Mcconnell block some of them from coming to vote on the floor. How can he get away with telling the people in KY that he wanted the bills and the democrats blocked them...
