Chery's millionth car 'just the beginning'

China's Chery Automobile Co produced its millionth car on Wednesday, becoming the first wholly Chinese auto maker to reach that milestone.

The company, established in 1997, started production in 1999 and made its first million cars in seven years and nine months, said a statement from the company. It took Chery about six years to make its first 500,000 vehicles, and only 17 months to complete the second half-million.
-snip-
------------------------

how long will it take climate change to slow down production - they might not even make it to the next million.

1. we got ours, now they'll get theirs
and i doubt that no matter how much the USA models change during the Gore presidency, china won't care that much.

starting to look like a global energy collapse may be the best thing for the health of the planet.

5. Maybe they'll discover in their cities what I discovered in Boston
I discovered that I could get there a hell of a lot faster on a scooter that could go between all the cars stuck in a line of traffic. I discovered that I could get there faster if I took the subway and walked. Hell, I discovered that short trips were a whole lot faster on a bicycle than they were by car.

I only had a car in the city for a couple of years when I had off street parking. I used it to get OUT of the city, not around it.

2. I believe a lot of cars in China
Run on natural gas and get better MPG than American cars. It's the coal plants that are the biggest threat for China as it industrializes.
