Craig Crawford’s Trail Mix: Dumping al-Maliki Could Stay Bush’s Course

Here we go again — new faces in Iraq to justify prolonging the U.S. presence. But this time, instead of rearranging the military uniforms on the ground, the Bush administration could be preparing the way for new political leadership in the Iraqi government.

The drumbeat to oust Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has only just begun. But if there is a change, look for the White House to argue that we must give the new leaders a chance before pulling out.

Even though President George W. Bush just yesterday expressed confidence in al-Maliki, there was something eerily similar to his words of support just before pulling the plug on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld or Mike Brown, the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency during Hurricane Katrina.

1. 1 HUGE problem with this that I can see....
Wasn't he elected to the position?? What right have we to "dump" his ass? NONE. It's not even our place to call for another election, or to call for a recall.

3. A new gov't in Baghdad? WOW we had better give them a year and a half grace period
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 12:01 PM by kenny blankenship
They'll NEED at least a year and a half before we can even think of opening discussions about troop withdrawals! Y'see it just wouldn't be fair to cut'n'run when we have a New Partner For Democracy who needs our aid against them terr'ists...

And halfway through that period I guess we can expect to be fighting an entirely new enemy, probably Shia militias from the southern provinces, ALLIED WITH TEHRAN AND SATAN!, so once more we find something that means we won't be able to leave.

Shucks Democrats! Just when you thought we could start talking about maybe leaving someday. DARN! How does this keep happening? Oh well, no use scratching yer heads about it over long. Pick up that rucksack and your gun, hand over all your money to the tax man and your sons to the Dept. oF DeaTh -
- WE'RE IN FOR A LONG HARD SLOG.
